Gloating is a mortal sin and you can't get into heaven with such on your soul. Lucky Dogs and you also Paul. :) We have 45degF and monsoon rains here for most of the past week, forecast is for 5 days of such over the next 7 days. We've had no snow but a few frosty nights so all in all a typical Nov. early Dec. I take all the 45deg.F we can get very easy on the firewood. Was good to get back at it today, FRP dust flying tomorrow ---:D

Yeah, I'm going to hell (it's warm there too).

Not so lucky for Indy (the Rottweiler), who while jumping around in the brambles, poked himself in the side with a stick and had to get 8 staples to close him up this afternoon. I think he was after a rabbit, but he's not too pleased now, poor guy. He'll be in quarantine for a couple of weeks, so his buddies aren't too happy either.

Here's to a quick recovery. Rottweilers are great dogs. Good job on the extractor, V. N.

I hope you used the T52 stainless in that Arrow, the dam regular clad plated ones rust within a couple of days :D. In all seriousness I hope he heals fast. Ya you guys are indeed lucky with the temperature this time of year. Wind topped out tues. night at 165K(100 plus mph.) gusts, last night they hit 125K(close to 80mph.),along with horizontal torrential rain. This was that snow storm that buried everything south west of us half way across the continent. By the time those big south western storms get to us it usually turns to rain with the snow rain changeover about 100miles to our west. Typically the snow portion tracks north east and buries Prince Edward Island, Cape Breton and usually the south east coast of Newfoundland while we get the rain. Rain is ok no need to shovel it although that dam wind is a problem. It removed a 3 x30 ft. strip of mineralized roll roofing clean off the west side of my shops peak. More of that "project support work" I talked about in post 189. My quick fix until spring is to simply caulk the 3/4 ply roof sheeting joins with clear mono. An"t gonna be distracted by that. :) Ok a hot cup of tea and off to the shop -have a good day

P.S. Hoyt,The sea's will be down to 6 ft.( Ok for canoeing ) by the time you arrive in May :D

Yeah, we're typically a little cooler this time of year. In fact, December is the coldest month for us (short days, long nights), but we're running a bit warm. This will change next week when some damn Yankee will toss down some ex-wife's heart temperatures. Normal for us in December is an average of about 72 - 73 with lows in the mid 50's. Now I have to go out and water my lawn . . .

Friends of mine carry super glue to clue wounds to dogs closed while boar hunting. Dogs get ripped up frequently. Glue wound edges together and dog gets back in the battle. Amazing dogs.

SuperGlue requires you hold the wound closed and aligned, until it dries, which is fairly quickly, more more often then not, you end up with a bump or misaligned scar. Now that I've seen the photo posted, I obviously need to fix the time/date stamp on the camera.

I wasn't in the mood to suit up and get into the dusty sanding today so I thought I'd do other prep. work. Some of the outer layers of the new keel's FRP lower edges hung down over and proud of the original keels surface where the two meet. It needed trimming both in length and thickness to provide a proper surface for future glassing to bond the two together. Somewhere back in my thread I pointed out that a regular old wood chisel often comes in handy doing FRP prep work as an alternative to dusty disc grinding which I always try to avoid. I could have grabbed the 5in. grinder and completed the job in about an hour but chose to do the longer dustless 4 hour chisel route. An added feature, it's also a good workout for the old guy. Today I completed one side, tomorrow the other. It required re sharpening the 1 in. chisels about every two feet of trimming but they do a great job of it. I did the vertical chiseling in the standard method but about every 6 in. I used the chisel in the plane mode horizontally. It is fascinating how the chisel blade follows in between the matt layers peeling off a layer at a time. Later in the work I will use the disc and in line strip sander to remove the original keels gel coat and further blend the new keel at the joint of the two before glassing . Keeping in time with the old rock tunes and stopping for a sip a tea I actually had an enjoyable day. I think this is the key to being "Happy In Your Work. :) The three photos show the required task , the method, and the completed prep work.

And I thought I was being so traditional working with a wood chisel. However hell of a good idea although my 1 in. throw monster I bought to knock off those rubbing strakes would not be the tool. Must check with my son the mechanic and see if he has an el chepo short throw kicking around just to give it a try. I suspect it might be hard to duplicate the finesse of a surgeon with the wood chisel. :)
Like Huston, we got our first snow of the season last night. Unlike Huston we only received --just a wee sporadic dusting that has since melted with this mornings rain. Poor Huston has three more days of freezing cold weather and a major cleanup. That's a far north of Rebel (Huston)/ just north of Yankee(Maine) territory gloat. And No, i'm possibly not going to heaven, then again thru cursing most of my boatbuilding friends will be in the other place on a big party :D

P.S. Whats this slang "ol man" You hanging around with Newfoundlanders ? (Look ere ol man wats dis about):D

It is good to see the progress George. I shall have to get down there with some “Hens and chickens” before too long. It has been a busy week but I have managed some long range planning for my retirement trip

To clear up that confusion you need to come to the shop and occupy your mind with liquid intake and physical work. I.E. A cold Speckled Hen and a wood chizel :p
