    Templates

The hull templates are just about completed. The first image below shows the templates for the hull's bottom and side panels. The second image shows the templates for the centreboard casing, bulkhead, and the underfloor ribs.
The templates are cut from 3mm ABS sheet.

    Mirror 16 plans?

Did anything come of the acquisition of the plans for this dinghy?
If so, I'd be interested in getting a copy.

Mirror 16 to a good home

Hey WWF & Mirror 16 enthusiasts
In cleaning up my parents holiday house I came upon their once prized M16, now significantly damaged with rot. I would prefer it to go to someone who would at least use it for parts rather than taking it to the tip. The rig is still complete and in good condition (except for a few missing sheets). The trailer is out of registration and appears to have a tow hitch slightly smaller than the standard 50mm ball. It is at Carey Bay - Lake Macquarie (near Newcastle N.S.W.) I have a few pictures if people are interested and am keen to move things along.
    Cheers
    Duncan

    Another Mirror 16

    Hi There,
I am talking on behalf on the Cowichan Maritime Centre on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. We have just acquired a Mirror 16. (# 478)
It certainly needs repair (renovation). I have been fascinated by the various sets of pics and the advice given by others who have struggled through this project. Our acquisition was drained of about 100 gallons of water in the hull before we could mover her. She is drying out now, but the plywood in her hull and in the hollow bige is so waterlogged that two males still cannot lifet her!
But we are determined to do a restoration.
Any help with lists of original construction details would be a great help. Plans would be ideal but I understand they are not available.
I can be reached at: kayakerchris@shaw.ca
    Hope for some ehlp.
    Thanks
    Chris

Excellent underrated boat the Mirror 16. Good luck to you guys restoring and saving them. I have sailed in one many years ago and was very impressed, so much better than a Wayfarer, much lighter, faster and much better behaved.
A guy called Archie Campbell at my old club Ranelagh SC Putney London used to have one in light blue. He sailed it many sea miles. From Scotland across the North Sea to Denmark solo and all round the Scottish Islands. He also entered the Mirror 16 Nationals and finished 2nd!. It was surprising that it did not do better but in the 80s windsurfing was taking away from dinghies for a while and people started to prefer the all plastic boats which is what Porter Bros did with the Wayfarer.

Bell Woodworking used to build them and supply kits into the late 80s' in Leicester. I saw them there on the Narborough Road along with the Mirror Offshore project they were building. The RYA may have the plans if Jack Holt left them to anyone other than Bell Woodworking. If you do get the plans off a good one it would be worth putting it into a decent 3D CAD system to very lightly refine it, within tolerances, to get a set of repeatable patterns.

TOW HITCH - ah that will be an old imperial one then. Mostly in the UK they were 2" and going to 50mm was of course a reduction in size!.

    The rebuild

    HI,
Thanks for your observations. I personally sailed a Wayfarer quite extensively in Southern UK, so I was pleased to see the Mirror 16. My disappointment has been in its condition. We think it will require a complete rebuild.
Another Mirror 16 owner is sending me the original instruction manual that came with the original kit, so we should be able to reverse engineer from that, although I don't think we'll draw plans, that's not in our plans at this stage.
As soon as we commence work, (that probably won't be for another month) I'll post photos and describe our process.
    Thanks again for the encouragement.

    Encouragement

    Thanks for the encouragement.
However it seems to be the hollow bilge which sets the Mirror 16 apart from so many other dinghies. it's a challenge to improve the original design and ensure it continues to work for long into the future.

My apologies to those who have been following this........ I have been through another redundancy/job hunting stage so the Mirror has gone on the back burner.
I am at the point of purchasing some ply and cutting out from the templates... hopefully a bit of spare cash and spare time will see this happen soon.

We have a mirror 16 #284. If you need any dimensions she is in good condition and located in Albion.
