    Hi,

my employer wants to buy a naval architect package.
I lean strongly towards the Maxsurf Suite, but find the new pricing strategy from Bentley quit tough.

So I wonder, if there is another package around which has the stability standarts of class associations (Rina) & MCA included, but costs less.

    Thanks for your thoughts,

    Franzi

Nowadays you need to get on your knees and request a "quote" !

A few years ago most stability packages had clear price lists posted or printed. Nowadays you need to request a "quote" ?
Hate to hear that Maxsurf was sold to 'Bentley'. What happened to our Aussie friends who developed and supported that great software?

Start with Wolson Unit, one of the few who still post a price list (below).
    http://www.wumtia.soton.ac.uk/software/price-list

    HYDROSTATICS SUITE (Wolson Unit)
HST, including: Hydrostatics, Stability and Tank Capacities £1250
HST Loading, including: Weights & Loading, Longitudinal Strength, Maximum KG & Stability Criteria and Inclining Experiment £1500
HST Damage, including: Damage Stability, Damage Maximum KG and Floodable Lengths £1500
Note: HST Loading and HST Damage modules require HST to be purchased

get a quote from dst on their GHS package.

For the information of all our fellow members; Post the figures quoted on different packages, as shown above, so we can keep up with their "quotes" ?

Depends on what you are going to design. My field is in the range of up to 60 ft boats and Rhino plus Orca gives me all I need. Common sense and own knowledge are necessary, though. Computers are stupid ;)

Guess the shortlist is Maat Hydro+, Wolfson or in the end Maxsurf for us...
We need damaged stability, Loadcases and much more.

    Thanks for your input!

One aspect that is not sufficiently appreciated is the ability it gives the selected program to create the model of your boat with ease. The program can calculate very well but if the created model is not good, the calculations are unreliable.
Study, then, and compare how friendly is for you the module to create models or the ability of the program to import 3D models created with other applications.
The support system, aids on line, it is also very important. The rapid response to concerns raised, ...
Do not be guided by advertising, which can be misleading. Take your time to decide. Study thoroughly test versions of applications available to users, and be guided by your own impressions, because each of us will tell you that the software he uses is the best.
Moreover, any program performs calculations with sufficient accuracy.

That is why I prefer the Maxsurf & Rhino solution. I know both softwares very well. Still money may force to shortcuts.

I think that, at this time, is the best solution. It has all the stability criteria you need and stability after damage by the probabilistic method.
Very good, in my opinion, although expensive. However, if you have to do several projects, complicated, a year, it is worth.
