Running rigging?

I recently (june) bought a 38' Cross trimaran, it's ketch rigged so... having never sailed a ketch or a tri before i motored out away from land and just played with it untill i figured it out, i have a good understanding of physics and alot of patience, i feel i did pretty well. since then i've sailed on every opertunity and i've been short hand sailing for over a month now. the boat was part of an estate so it came with alot of stuff (mostly garbage) but i'm very interested in what appears to be 2 small 'boom-like things' tied to the deck. my uneducated guess would be something to do with the sails, but i already have my main, misson, and jib and it cant be replacements for anything i already have since both are way too small. one is nothing more than a large pipe with a coroaded brass thing on one end and broken off on the other end, the brass has some type of clip/pin thing on it and an eyelet. the other is distinctly a rail made to hold sail slugs with dangeling hardware at one end. if anyone knows or thinks they may know what i'm talking about, i'd love to find out what theese do/how to make it do what it does.

Very carefully.

The broken pole you can use for a tent or something. It's junk except maybe for the end fitting.

The forestay'l boom (if that is what it is) is ...

a boom for the forestays'l.

Many people would call it a jib boom. They'd be wrong, but that's what they'd call it.

You might have a small headsail, one that does not overlap the main mast. The boom attataches to the foot of that sail.

Do a search on Whisker Pole and one on Jib Boom.
