The company that owns the sunken boat is Viet-Sec in Vung Tau, Vietnam. It's a branch of James Boat http://www.jamesboat.vn/ in Nha Trang. They imported the PPC material from Czech and they have exported some of these boat to this country.

As far as I know, the PPC material is used for building boat only in Czech and Vietnam, and the PPC boats have just been used for a short time, so people can not say much about them.

WTF. 30 people in a 12 passenger boat in big waves.

What the boat was made of has nothing to do with why it sank.

Well, just counting heads really isn't fair as they are only about half the size of us overweight Americans!

I'd guess that the problem had everything to do with the overloading and the boat design and nothing to do the material. We have seen a HDPE sheet river boat that seems to be doing quite well, even when bouncing off of rocks that would have dented or holed most other boats.

My reading of the properties mentioned the tendency of tearing rather than shattering or breaking. An added rip-stop embedded material might prevent that, I don't know if that is done.

So you mean PPC is ok for boat building? Have you got a boat made of this material? If it is cheaper than fiberglass, I'd buy one

I realize that this is a very old thread but I just wanted to mention that Polypropylene copolymer is the material that thousands of Porta Botes are made out of.

All my boats are built out of pp2 or copolymer polypropylene.
    Been building them since 2000.
See them on Facebook or Google Durapolyboats.
