    Starter Motor

Would anyone have the serial number of the starter motor for my simms. It is a ford crossflow 1600 engine.

I have been told that there is a difference in that the starter works in reverse, clockwise/anticlockwise. Would this be right ?

Found a starter on fleabay for less that a hundred quid.
One more question, i am trying to take out the engine but I am having some difficulty.
Do i have to take the 3 or 6 bolts out of what i call the doughnut ( Cush) to separate the impellor shaft from the engine

From memory you need to undo all 6 nuts to remove the ally spacer in the middle.
Depending on your setup, I was able to remove what was the clutch bell housing from the block, to get at the bolts which made it a lot easier. I've read somewhere that you can do it from underneath without removing the bell housing but in all honesty it's tight as it is without working completely blind.

Dave. Thanks for the info. I will have a crack at that later on today, I can foresee skinned knuckles and a few swear words on that job.

By the way if anyone is interested in acquiring a starter for their Simms -" LRS167 25180 Triumph 1500 1500TC 1971-73 Starter Motor " - I have just searched ebay and they are still available , just copy and paste the above into ebay. I got one of these a few weeks ago, slappe3d it on and away she went.

It seems that the Triumph Car was the only car to use these reverse spin starters from 71 /73.

I have only seen one other of these starters on ebay, and the one in question was in a sorry state.

Hi and sorry for digging up this old thread! (If it's better for me to start a new one I will but this comes so close to answering some issues that I am having at the moment!) I have all my fingers crossed that "scouter" is still lurking here and might be able to help!

Long story as short as possible....
I have a sims super v jetboat that I am attempting to rebuild/restore (knowing little about boats but pretty good at being handy!) It has the exact same jet drive that is shown on this thread by "scouter" and finding any info on it is near on impossible! I believe that it is very similar to the pp65 by Vosper (and may even be able to share some parts!)

As it stands I have disassembled as much of the jet drive as possible for cleaning and replacement of parts but cannot for the life of me get the main bearing out of the alloy housing block or the shaft out of the bearing, is there a trick to this?! The stator (I believe it is called) that sits at the back end of the jet also puzzles me, Is there a bearing in there somewhere or is it just some kind of greased socket that the end of the impeller shaft sits inside? There is a seal on the front face but I don't know if there WERE other seals further inside? Anyone know where I might be able to get an exploded jet diagram from, even if it is the pp65 as it's supposed to be pretty similar?

I'm hoping that I'm just going to need a new main bearing, rear bearing (if there is one?), and new seals for along the shaft, but I can only assume that the old ones have perished and fallen out/off as there are none there. I just can't find any info anywhere and as for part numbers.......
Other than these issues, the jet and impeller look to be in good condition.

Anybody able to shed some light on things for me or point me in the right direction to go and pester somebody else?!
    Many thanks,
    Steve

forgot to say, I'm on the Isle Of Wight so was pretty sure that someone down here might know something about these boats but sadly that doesn't seem to be the case! Places I've asked so far won't even look at jet drives.

If you trawl back through my posts you will find that myself and others have comprehensively dealt with the pp65, One very helpful member has posted an original manual complete with diagramS Read the posts carefully and you will see that most of what you need is available from your local bearing and seal supplier.Rebuild info is there too.
