marinised diesel engine problem

I have a marinised ford 2.5diesel engine taken from a transit, the problem I have is when I start it it only runs for about 3 seconds then stops, it will start again straight away but will only run for about 3 seconds, can any 1 help?
p.s. there are no fuel leaks of any kind

Your engine was working before and now you have that cind of problem or what????
How i see you have problem with high pressure pump!!!!!
Ask help from High pressure pump expert!!!!
If not than your problem is much greather!!!

 

the engine was already in the boat (which was bought as a project) so i dont know the history, it was supposedly a recon engine.
we have fuel to the pump, there is no no air in the return line, but it starts for a few seconds then stops

 

did you completly relive air from fuel sistem???
High pressure pipes that goes from pump in to injector have to be also without air!!!!!
relise high pressure pipe from injector then turn engin until fuel start to coming out from pipe!!!!!

 

the engine in question is supposed to be self priming, but it's worth a try.

 

what type of fuel pump you have?
Type Bosh or Rotary?

hi it sounds like you have a fuel problem with suction /vacum poss make sure u can bleed fuel freely from palm pump on engine to nearest bleed point in engine ,it must run freely ,if not poss block in supply/ collapsed hose on fuel supply ,note old crappy fuel lines made of steel outers with rubber inside well known for colaspsing internals(check all fuel flexis),water can give same symtons aswell let know how u get on, john ps make sure tank has a breather in /onit ??????

 

also check connection on elec stop soleniod if got one fitted you will find on injector pump, also completely undo a injector pipe next to injector and spin engine over to see if u get a rough idea how much fuel is being pushed through pump at cranking speed ,it should be intime with engie speed roughly,worth a look before u take pump off !!!!?????
