I haven't seen small scuppers at deck level and large scuppers higher. Sounds like an idea to consider.

I don't have the personal experience at sea that you and Michael have. But it sounds sensible to me.... especially on a sailboat that spends a lot of time heeled.

So far so good on the wide body but I have not done any serious backing into the swells yet so we will see. Good thing I always ware tall rubber boots:)

I built a 27 foot Tolman Jumbo. I was about 500 hrs working to a workboat standard and simple configuration with two bunks, deck aft, 7 ft cabin and 6 ft pilot house.

I think the primary time drivers for building one of these is what standard of finish do you want. Mines for fishing. tuna, mahi, shark, cod, fluke, sea bass, ling, crabbing, towing kids in the river and for dogs doign unmentinonable things on the deck at times.

You are absolutely right about the time a fine finish will consume.
