So the guy that was telling me about the 3:1 thing was just feeding me bull...t! I'll take everything he says from now on with a pinch of salt:(

I'm kinda confused now, what does it mean to "raise the sheer a bit"? What's the sheer, is that the bow?
Also I thought the sole was the floor/deck, if it is then it's all on one level. That is, the floor of the doghouse is at the same level as the surrounding deck.....no step up or down.

I see others have gotten to all of this ahead of me, but I'll post it anyway. The stripe should try to hide the beltline, so maybe half above and below, or a pair of them, one up and one down.

Take the pilot house off, put on a baseball cap and enjoy the salt spray ....

    ;)

The only way to get the height and proportions you want would be to get a bigger boat ....

PS: Your PH is far forward, you could move it back .... I would cover the current PH with a white sheet, and raise something like a green tent in the back. Have someone take photos and see if the move would help or hurt.

Other than that, a different paint scheme.

Cut out parts from half inch foam panels.Pin together with round toothpicks.

Glass the foam in and out after happy with design.

Make the hard dodger removable, just in case

And you can make a "convertible top"

Put a hatch, or "sunroof" in the PH.

Sitting headroom when closed, and your head sticking out like a giraffe on a circus train, when standing up and hatch open.

Nice drawing, I particularly like what you’ve done to the roof. Not sure about what you mean about the colour scheme. Change the blue to what….white? And then add a couple of angled stripes in blue?

If I was 50yrs younger then the baseball cap would be an option, but not now I’m afraid.
I built the PH as far back as I could, allowing space behind the PH and forward of the transom for 4 off 23litre fuel tanks and still give access around the deck.
Thanks for the glossary link I now know what the sheer is and the sole and whole heap more besides.

The half inch foam, is that polystyrene sheeting? Would it not dissolve when the resin is applied?
It certainly would cut down on weight; I think my PH is too heavy. I think for version 2 I’ll use some of your ideas, maybe not the giraffe…..then again!

Why not add Bulwarks on top of the sheer.

    It's a walk around wheelhouse though, isn't it ?

Would you lose any deck space?

I think I wrongly assumed you meant a bulwark blended into his wheelhouse, what you suggest would lessen the visual impact of the high wheelhouse, and also give some additional internal depth for people to brace themselves against.

That seems to be a good idea!
How high can I go with these bulwarks without changing the sailing characteristics or stability of the boat?

    Yes.

Not only a visual effect but a practical one too, brilliant!! Being 6ft 5ins the gunwale only comes up to just above my knee, so it would give added sense of security.
The crux of the matter is how high can I go?

The stuff at the lumberyard for home insulation.

Comes in 4x8 sheets from very thin to 4 inch thick.

I have used the hard blue stuff for armature in FRG projects.

Don't use the crumbly white stuff.

What type of plastic is it? I think urethane, not styrofoam.

Also save yourself frustration and buy your glass first.

Flip out van windows or other salvaged automobile safety glass from junkyard.

Design your windows on glass you have, is better than getting glasss for arbitrary dimensioned window cutouts.

    Plastic windows suck.

they have these annoying refraction circles.

Safety glass is the good stuff.
