FFS, CT, the topic is "AC's so called decline", not dredging up something relating to early multi and light displacement monos from 2/3/4 decades ago.
    Holy defecation, alright.

The OP's opinion somewhat lost after all these posts. The Red Bull Youth America's Cup is parochial in team selection and run in AC45's so one design if you want to see a parochial event then watch those teams battle it out. The racing will be well worth watching. There is even an Australian team "Objective Australia".

    and more on the RBYAC

The point is pretty simple, Gary.

You have thrown lots of abuse around for a long time (like the "Mono ******* Hulls" thread you started on SA) so for you to complain that other people are negative is just plain silly.

I said that a couple weeks back. I don't have a problem with it any more than I do with drag racing cars, however I don't confuse a drag racer with, say, a Targa rallying car either.

He is also using on this forum the same rude and offensive way of writing typical of SA forum.

Well, I would not like to see this forum become a landfill for free disposal of vulgarity, like SA is. Contrary to SA, the dignity and respect has always been maintained or enforced by moderators in all discussions throughout this place (even the most heated ones), which is what has made BD.net such a constructive and informative place.

Maybe it's time to step in and request that if this thread is to remain open, let's please try and keep it polite to other members and refocus it on specifics of the AC that can be discussed intelligently and more productively and get away from further jabs which don't really go anywhere or help the quality of the discussion. Obviously people watch the AC for different reasons, some for the technology and scale, others for the human skill, some for skills they've never seen before and others for time honored skills that define sailing for them; not everyone will agree, but let's please try to keep the threads here polite and focused on ideas rather than jabbing at people or rehashing old arguments, so that everyone can enjoy taking part and the discussions can be more interesting.

    Americas Cup Declining ??

The title of this thread is the question.
At this stage how does ANYONE know if the AC is declining.
Hadn't we better wait and see until it is over. Then we can have a rational review of it's success----or not.

Well, CT, I searched through Sailing Anarchy for the so called title you accused me of posting - no such thing exists.
You just make stuff up to suit the strange tasting beer that you imbibe.

Well the prestigious Louis Vuitton cup is in decline.

In Bruno Trouble s words. . " It is worse than we thought"

The art of match racing has disappeared and been replaced by a freak show

Ok, so the OP's question has been re-interpreted by you to "LV Cup declining ?".
The AC can't actually be declining, from a competitor standpoint, since if it loses one competitor, it cedes to be a regatta between two boats.
The AC also can't be declining, from a spectator standpoint, since it only starts in a few weeks, and something that hasn't begun, cannot be judged as having lost it's spectator fan base, until it happens.

Michael, the Moderator asked us all to play nicely only 3 posts ago, perhaps folks who are catamaran sailors, enjoy foiling design in sailboats, and think the wings are groovy, might take exception to you calling them a freak show. Posts like that are inflammatory and bring out the nasty side of folks like the good Mr. Baigent and Mr. Lord, and I much prefer their nice side.

So Mr. Moderator, could you please remove Mr. Pierzga's antagonistic post, and we can all be friendly toward him..

This was just a provocative post, wasn't it? Please tell me it was... ;)
I am pretty sure that you are aware that LVC has become an integral part of the AC event, and been accepted as such, quite long time ago. Actually I would dare to say - at least as important part of the AC as the AC itself.
So, when people are discussing the AC, they are discussing the two symbiotic events LVC+AC.

Try this thread perhaps? Some of your comments and replies, especially to Chris, are in poor taste. I dont think you appreciate how disrespectful it appears given your knowledge, experience and contribution to the sport.

I think the cup is in decline, albeit a temporary one, and the latest round of bald faced cheating in the 45's may be the basis for a protest by any of the challengers to attack OR for bringing the cup into disrepute. I dont think anyone would disagree that it hasnt cast a pall over the trustworhiness of OR.

Yeah we get it Michael you don't like multihulls or multihull racing.

You have a point - the thread title and framing isn't really conducive to a good technical discussion appropriate for the sailboat forum. It seems posts in this thread are now causing more irritation than learning about design aspects of the sailboats or details of the AC. Further this was actually a 2006 thread, before being revived, that was quite old at this point and has now become a jumble of different things. Rather than have it be a further collection point for arguments that started somewhere else being dragged over here, it's probably better at this point to close this 7-year old thread. There are other threads on the AC and more specific technical threads would produce better discussion in the sailboat or multihull forums here.
