    Quite correct. Was typing too fast.

    The practical approach is to rotate the second ply (BD or BiAx) in a slightly different angle.

    In theoretical approach, the theory of mutual influence is used. That is to keep the angle of rotaion at minimum in relation to the succeeding plies with the normal axis in the center. The ultimate aim is to produce a nearly orthotropic laminate (quad laminate)

    The program which installs R10.2 version does not work properly, some of the files needed by SCT (. dll. ocx, etc) are not installed and therefore, application malfunctions or crashes.
    These problems are already solved in version R10.4 which can be downloaded from our website: http://657677483.wix.com/tansl

    IMPORTANT NOTICE :
    a user of SCT has warned that the program seems to give the wrong treatment to composites. We are analyzing the problem, which could be important, with great attention but for now, it is not located.
    If any of you feel hurt by SCT please get in touch with us: 657677483@orange.es. Personally wi'll try to give all the explanations that are within our reach.

    There are several reasons to get a standard and take a few hours (at least) to get in with the idea of scantlings. There is no use to go with just easy answers if there is no understanding of physics behind, even if this one is not that perfect with its all details. Rules of thumb does the job mostly when a matter of common recreational boats, but not when its a matter of boats in rougher conditions.

    Hello meren, I am the creator of the program SCT, who performs calculations of scantlings according with ISO 12215. I do not understand what you mean with your comment but, if there is anything I can help, I'd be happy to do so.

    Ment that ISO 12215-5 isn't "one true holy bible" of keeping a boat solid in conditions what so ever... It's great indeed that there are people like YOU TANSL to make these complicated things easier to understand to beguinners. Even so... Take a standard and possibly some physics behind it, to understand what You are going to desing for conditions under concideration...:)

    Thanks Meren for your words. To calculate the scantlings one must have some knowledge of physics, mathematics and mechanics of materials. When you know a lot of the latter area and have the right software, you can do what is called a "direct calculation", applying the theory of beams, frames or plate´s theory, ... . However, when one does not know much about these things, or do not have time or do not feel, can apply standards such as ISO 12215. What is needed, of course, is to know and understand the rules that are being implemented. Specifically, on fiber boats scantlings, I really agree : you have to know something about the properties and handling of the fibers. In contrary case, there is no rule that can be applied correctly.
