OK , I did the PVA thing this morning, thanks to tunnels and SamSam I had no problems and I think I did a good job. The plug is sitting in the garage now drying, with a fan moving the air around. I will wait a few hours, and then gel coat the plug, 2 coats. and lay it up tomorrow morning. I was going to roll and brush, but instead I might spray. I have an old HVLP gun I might try. Don't want to risk my good HVLP gun. Can I use lacquer thinner to clean the gun after, or something else. Do I just wait for the first coat to set up or is this a time period thing. BTW the gell coat looks pretty thick in the can. I'm used to spraying AwlGrip which is almost the consistency of water.

Who are the "Ozzies" anyway? Never thought about going to China. Here in the good old USA we think that there is no place like home. Who knows anymore, though

Yeah I have family in NZ ! 2 out of six keep in touch sometimes ,the others think im a little crazy . I tell them it could run in the family anyway !!
I have a short list of the things from home I miss but its gradually getting shorter each year !!
I lived in Brisbane for a while but that was long time back and needed adventures and mind stimulation so went walk about and worked and lived a few places since those days !, I'm getting itchy feet again and could be finding another greener place close to the sea and that is really what I miss the most !! the sea and the salt air !!lakes and big waterways just not the same .
    :D

Try some of the thinners with a tea spoon of gel coat see if it mixes . some don't and just ends up as big sticky mess . but you never know .
Travel broadens your way of thinking ! sure there's no place like home but who knows what you might find along the way seeing and mixing with other peoples of the world changes you prospective and seeing and looking takes on a whole new meaning . its never to late to pack a bag ,close the door and hide the key ! never ever regretted one moment of what I've done and the places Iv been . Have meet and made life long friends along the way . The internet puts you instantly in touch with everyone and I never leave home without my laptop . just do it !!!

PVA, Polyvinyl alcohol, is a very common mold release agent.

It is also resistant to oil, grease and solvents

BUT BUT BUT you can use methylated spirits to thin PVA
that's something I never tried myself but was used long time ago !!

The Pink Velvet Arm chairs are found in some other part of the country. No here!

I had no idea what the PVA was or what it was used for.

Ok its a water soluble releasing agent . comes in a liquid form and can be applied straight from the bottle with a sponge , rag , brush or spray gun !
If you have a look way back you will find a method I was shown in 1986 and have used ever since . I have shown others how to use and its almost fool proof , but there's always the non believers . The industrial company I worked we never used any release wax at all just watered down PVA !! NEVER had a problem with plugs ,moulds or anything ,releasing all the time I worked there ,so when you learn some thing good I been passing it on ever since . For non slip tread patterns on boats decks its real good and don't get any dirty wax marks that seem to appear now and then !!
its seems to be pretty much the same the world over just small variations of the same thing !!;)
