The compass card (part with the numbers) is influenced by external magnetic forces...under practical use, for all intents and purposes, it does not move. The part that moves is the lubber line (boat).

- but if the fluid is too thick how will you change course quickly?

 

I need to add unscented mineral spirits to my old Plastimo Compass. I have stopped the leak now how do I get the liquid in and the air out of the sphere?

if there is no little tiny fill port screw, you have to drill a hole, fill it using a syringe, and then have a way to plug it. None of that is going to be easy unless you can think of something?

After you fill it and small air bubble show up again, it may be due to dissolved air in the fluid. If you put the compass in the freezer, the fluid will compress and force all the air out. Then you can add some more.

 

Thanks for your help. There is a small screw I will try to find a syringe to use.
