Quite! But IN0, this forum is full of <rude remark towards other members removed>, who have not anything better to do than scorn at the obviously useful and important [and official] data...

Keep the data streaming mate, I'm still learning more from you than anyone or thing else...

"...If we are to stand any chance of influencing global warming, it would be to build more nuclear reactors." [Prof James Lovelock]. A rather bitter pill to swallow from the father of the Gaian Principle... But maybe "The Lesser of two weevils."

Most people living in an area where a six inch rise in the water level would devastate them are idiots. [Hello, Imaginary Number].

So, you think that 3 million Bangladeshis, half a million Pacific Islanders, a fair bit of New York City, large parts of the European coastal community are all fools ?

Many of them cannot move due to economic or political reasons, as the US and other desirable locations limit immigration.

There must be more to your statement than sheer simple-mindedness and outright bigotry, maybe just a case of congenital brain damage ?

If they can get the Thorium process working that PDW mentioned, it may be viable.

Other than that you can have a bill for over " £70 billion to decommission the 19 existing United Kingdom nuclear sites" for equipment that will never generate another watt of power for 100 years.

The experience of all the major nuclear disasters is that the technology isnt as big a problem as the stupidity of the management of the sites. As long as humans administer the projects, we are all at risk.

"metric elevation of a few landmarks in Manhattan:

    Central Park Reservoir 36 meters

    Columbus Circle 21-22 meters

    ..........

    3rd Ave and E.24th Street 6 meters

    .....
East Houston Street and Avenue D 1 meter

East Houston Street and Avenue C 3 meters

    .....
    Columbus Circle 21 ~ 22 meters

    ......
    Columbus Circle_________________21~22 meters

    Central Park W & W 62nd St.______20 meters

    ......
Frederick Douglas Blvd & Harlem River Dr.___1 meter"

6 inches of increased sea level would not be devastating. The Statue of Liberty isn't holding her nose, not even close.

Bangladesh is largely a floodplain of the Ganges since many thousands of years, mostly below 10 meters except the hilly regions for all that time. Because it is an alluvial plain, regularly flooded seasonally, it has rich soil good for farming. People know the risks of living on a flood plain and accept those risks. Raising the water level 6 inches would not be devastating to the area as a whole, so your accusation is specious, inaccurate and inflammatory.

According to the Wikipedia articles that you so helpfully provided links to, it appears that the volcanic islands that are formed near subduction zones are not formed on the subduction side, but 100-200km away from the subduction zone on the "buoyant" side. This suggests to me that in general these islands are not in imminent danger of being sucked into the bowels of the earth. Either way, sea level rise due to global warming is far faster than tectonic subduction.
