Going slower for less power mostly works to stop energy use simply making waves.

so there is a limit below which gouing slower does little.

At SL 1 (the sq rt of the working lw )l the wave making and skin friction resistance are about equal.

Going slower than SL 1 will reduce power required , but the gains are not very large.

    Great Job Eric!
Its nice that somebody makes his dream real!

Here is my fuelsave power trimaran:
    LWL: 9,9 m
    BWL: 5,8 m
    Trailerable beam: 2,55 m
    Bare weight: 1000 kg
    Berths 4+1
    Engine: 40 HP inboard diesel

The design (still working on) is less futuristic, but provides more space in the dimensions. Two separate cabins, toilet, saloon. Trailerable without permission.
The main hull can be used for sailing trimaran too. (One mould needed).
    Beam length ratio is 1/10.

    quite a project.
that AMA definitely needs some more info!

is it displacement shape when up right but can be swing to a more planing shape?
or it it to make it a swimming platform?

cool lookin project would be nice to hear more.

    You spot it !
On low speed or at rest, you got swimming platforms, verry low draft and verry stable boat.
The foil are mounted on them, so when the amas are lowered the foils are up and no longer on the water.

At speed, amas are up and barrely touche the water, stability is then provided by the foils.

The roof is also on electric actuators and can be move 12cm up for ventilation.

There is two tanks, one 300 liters and one 350 liters.
I will fit two 60hp outboards, one with a big foot prop and one with a jet. The jet is a secondary motor for shallow waters and for divers recover. The power heads are the same so I have parts in case for the primery prop motor.

the Turning AMA is very cool. Challenging hinge with salt water and all.

what is your guesstimate for speed range on the 60hp?

    15/17 kn cuising at 4000/4500
20kn full power with one motor. (not with 650 liters of fuel !)

Then hinges are made with 22mm stainless tubes with a silicon inserts and 10 mm stainless threaded rods. the tubes are inbeded in basalt epoxy. The threaded rods are 1 meter long and there is 4 of them for each side, I have welded a nut at the end. I am verry happy with the result.

What brand are those big linear actuators? Assume they are DC and stainless? What are their speeds?

    Cool project!

I like the fold down ama idea and can appreciate their multiple functions.

Lenco actuators 12V DC and stainless, my brother used them for years without any issue.
they are 2 of those by side, one 24" and one 20". They are stacked in one unit.
You need about 15 seconds for the full move. I got more than 90° so I can put the ama bottom lower than the main hull bottom.

Thanks for pointing out there are two stacked.

I was trying to figure out what was going on there.

Very clever way to not only increase motion extension while adding strength, but also reducing the motion time by essentially creating a double ended actuator.

I might have to borrow that idea on my next solar hard bimini top design.
