supercat 17 turned into powerboat

    Im in the process of turning a old supercat 17 into a small deck boat that is going to used for exploring rivers and lakes mostly. There will be an aprox 8ft x 8ft aluminium platform and very little other wait added. My estimate is between 300 and 400lbs in total wieght.. question is where and what size motors to use.. Easiest will be to use a 20hp in the center attached to the deck.. Other idea is to use 2 smaller outboards on each hull. think this will give me alot better control of the boat. I also was foundering how well 2 electric trolling motors would work? quiet crusing with not noisy engines would rock... any suggestions would be great..

    Well it depends on how fast you want to go!

    I would say not more than a 20hp and I'd just fit one central engine, otherwise you'll need to work out a steering system. Disadvantage of the central engine is you'll need a water piercing nacelle or you'll get too much aeration

    thanks for the reply.. I agree the central engine will be the easiest.. This will help eliminate work and uneeded pieces to store since the boat will be stored on top of my bus/ motorhome. How do I stop the ariation? sorry Im a newbie...

    thanks for the link.. I understand now. I guess there is lots to learn.
    I been researching using a long tail motor also.. This seems like my style since its DIY.. any thoughts?

    Why not do a swap with the guy in the other thread that is turning a pontoon boat into a sailing boat?
