A client asked me :"What is the Estimated Steel Weight of 24m Crew/Utility Boat?".. Because he needs to evaluate the budget of building this boat to send (or not) his reply to the Boat Tender.

If your client is so little serious to ask that question, without giving any more data, we can say that the weight is 58. 58, what?. And that who cares?.
That, in the way he does, do not ask!. I imagine that you, who have more knowledge than your client, would the question differently. How would you ask?

No, you are completely wrong. For sure it's 42! ;)

To be serious: There are some empirical/statistically based methods (at least for merchant ship hulls) to estimate net steel weight. But they require the input of much more information than just the length!

Yes, Olav, you're right. By mistake had added twice the weight of the poop deck.

    TOO much

TANSL, I thought that when saying 24m it's enough to a profesional to expect approximate values for B,D,T according to his experiences but sorry I was wrong...
    It's 24.0m X 6.5m X 2.4m (L X B X D); now i'd like to get some empirical/statistically based methods to estimate net steel weight just like the positive reply from"Olav GER ".

    Thanks

That's what I am asking for "empirical/statistically based methods (at least for merchant ship hulls) to estimate net steel weight". So, please, send me this methods if possible.;)

abohamza , it will be funny or not. That's a subjective opinion. But the weight of steel depends largely on the number of decks your boat have, the number of transverse bulkheads, the equipment on deck, and so many other things that you should define. So my advice is that you forget the fun things I can say and to focus more on the positive that can be deduced from my words, if it's something positive.
Keep in mind that the more inaccurate is your question, the less valid the response.
Scan well Olav response "But They require the input of much more information than just the length".
Listen to him and provides some more information.

You didn't get my wiew point

It was a tender bidding for building a HULL and the owner needed a quick answer depending on previous experiences. Now, after your long discusion and details, I appreciate if you have any info. let me know, otherwise thanks for your time and effort.

I think I have enough experience (over 35 years) working with structures of ships, and their weights, as to say that, with the information provided by you, I would not venture to give any numbers.
    Regards.

    abohamza,

I had something in mind about this topic, performed a little search on this forum and eventually found the thread I was thinking of:

    Click me!

Within this thread there is the following graph that plots hull and deck weight against hull length for steel, aluminium, and FRP construction vessels.

However, I have no idea about the applicability limits of this graph or if your vessel falls within the kind of boat that these curves are derived from. Unfortunately RANCHI OTTO has been away from this forum for quite a long time now (which I think is a pity as his contributions were always very educating and fun to read - he also seemed to be a nice bloke in general!), so I don't know if you are able to contact him via Private Message or mail from the forum to clarify the boundaries of these curves.

    Hope this helps a bit.

P.S.: I really had to laugh as I read TANSL's comment on the 42 - for me it was very funny indeed... :D
