Is this officially the box-rule era of sailing? The Storm Trysail Club has introduced a new box rule for a 65-foot offshore racer, adding to the trend started by the powerful Transpac 52 class and perpetuated by IRC plans to build box-rule boats in three different sizes.

The TP52 is not ideal offshore, so the door was open for a true offshore racer. The STC says the rule "promotes a seaworthy high-performance boat for both inshore and offshore sailing, with tight enough perameters to minimize obsolescence. " Ken Read of North Sails calls it a 'Transpac 52 on steroids'.

This is so Microsoft. So Republican. Do you remember the advertisments. Windows is slow and crashes a lot so now we have Windows 2000. Soon it will be Windows 2000 is open to hackers so now we have Longhorn or what ever they will be calling it. This is an example of the Republican way of eating ones own. BTW, Teeters has always been the Chair of Offshore at US Sailing. That Chair handles the IMS races in the USA - ALL TWO OF THEM. HA HA what a joke. Love the PHRF dicussions. Be aware that PHRF NW has made significant changes for the future. There will be 500 IRC boats by the end of the year in the US and yes I am sticking with 20 TP52s. On hacking.

The truth is that Microsoft sings the Steaming Pile of Crap song every morning. The company has a track record of letting the industry and its customers and partners down. Judge Jackson was correct. But the selling of the wrong way, the Microsoft way continues. It is just like box rules and sailboat design. And still our (Microsofts) permatemps have not been paid. Argh. I continue to hope for Microsoft. This deal with Real looks good. It does nothing for the problems in EU.

This brings up Al Runte's comment on Paul Alen. Now I do not know the Microsoft Founder but I disagree with Al on his concerns over him. Alen's crime is not giving his projects the oversight necessary. The Amerca's Cup entry that so disgraced Seattle with design cheating might have been avoided if Alen had withdrawn his support when it was obvious the game was tarnished.

It is obvious that Box Rules have been tarnished. We do the sport honor by withdrawing our support for them. Do you really disagree? Mr. Tripp, not Tripp Gal is responsible for the new 65-foot offshore box rule.

65 foot is the magic number today because of the alternate year from Transpac race. You know the one with one of the longest held records in ocean sailing. I do not Josh - she is the 65 foot MacGregor.
