Does anyone know some rough parameters for the build of a 40m
Tri-deck Displacement Motor yacht, with alloy superstructure built to
    Class.

    Like:

    1 Design cost in %
2 The percentage of Labour cost to build
3 Percentage of equipment and materials cost

And or the profit margin for the sale of a new Superyacht.

To start with you have to determine what class you are building to. Secondly, the hull, deck, machinery and other systems, which will be dictated by class regulations, may be only a small percentage of the total cost. The finish quality, interior and artwork usually are the larger part of the total cost.

I would imagine that straight forward builds of yachts this size would be fairly rare.
I think the real trick would be to find situations where there is reasonable confidence that the whole thing came off at arm's length and that the financials were actually representative of what happened. You might have better luck looking at the resale market and then adding the depreciation back in.

    40M. Power Boats.

It is easy enough to check the boats for sale on Yachtworld, and the Publications such as Showboats to check on Fraser yachts, CamperNicholsons, Burgess etc.. to have an idea of what yachts cost on the second market. Now add what ever you think to get it new and triple check. When I am involved in such a project, the above represent the base of my own approach.

My biggest was 23metres, it was a cost of just on two M. Finely fitted out and single screw, twin gensets, and all quality fittings. China build. Never finished cos of the GFC crap.

I have no idea if this is the same poster, but how much does it cost to build a modest skyscraper? Not a 95+ story monolith mind you, but you know, a messily 30 story thing?

    Haha!

I just remembered Captain so-and-so with the April 1st design request for a multihull that could carry two vehicles. If it's all coming from the same person, perhaps we have prank-mastermind among us. If so, he's enjoying himself.

I don't think a couple of three line responses constitutes "biting hard". And I have no idea why you assume this newbie is a troll.

Welcome to the forum, mobil. Maybe a bit more info on what you are up to would appease the insomniacs. 3AM posts- really?

Anyone looking to build/buy a 130' yacht and asking these questions hasn't even Goggled "130' yacht $" . . . let alone talked to an NA or designer or their site.

I could see this as being different, if it was an 18' center console or even the dream 40' cruiser, but a 130' yacht? Folks that can actually contemplate this type of project, will have enough wherewithal to get a staff member, on some of the preliminary details.

Maybe this Hatteras will do at just shy of 8.5 million, which is the low end of the spectrum.

Since we don't know if it's power or sail, how about a charter for a week at 60K per, just to find out what they like . . .

    Superyacht mobile here !

Hi Guys, am just looking for statistics, like most industries they have general parameters for Labor costs and material costs, eg: the labour for a $20m new build could be around 65% the Material cost say 30% and perimeter expenses say 5%.

These would fluctuate dependent on build location, but if you look at say the European market as a bench mark then, the percentages would flow on from there.

Also, a Motor Yacht, refers to a Motor-yacht !!!! not a sail boat (blow Boat) plus the last time I looked, I wasnt a troll !!!

    cheers

It doesn't work like that. If you show a particular vessel it is possible to calculate the percentages. However, yachts in particular, are too customized to have averages that make sense. The interior can be 30% or 98%. Yes, the second figure is right. Custom or famous artwork can easily cost more than the rest of the yacht.

Cheers Gonzo, I understand the interior aspect, maybee I should have provided members with more information with our first question,

we are looking at a simple straightforward 40m Steel charter yacht, without the frills of owners artwork etc, 10 guests 6 crew, built to say ABS or Lloyds, under 250 tonnes.

so if we assume 30% is materials, 4% design and class, 6% misc expenses, we are then left with 60% Labor.

I still think Labor is more than 60% - does anyone else have any ideas on labor costs for a superyacht build ?
