In my post 223 I said:-
"I made full size blow ups from your PDFs but they are much too blurred to be useful. Re-working them would be a full time job using drawing equipment and a good knowledge of the construction details and materials. Even then it would need a lot of guesswork. RENOVATING AND COPYING OF THE PLANS would be the only way to bring the Crowther B28 back to life."
I took me 50 hours of detailed work to restore the original plans of my B24, before they could be effectively copied and I don't think SS's plans would be any better. I spent $85.00 blowing up the PDFs of the B28, which was unsatisfactory, so I would not be worried about the costs of doing it properly.

I have shipped 43 copies of the B24 plans all over the world with never a loss in transit, so I don't think sending the original plans by registered post is much of a risk, especially as I am willing to cover all costs.
    Whats the REAL problem?

He's paranoid you might make a fortune, OS7 ... from his plans ... and nothing for him. Sad.
Actually the easiest way to copy plans is to just simply photograph them with a high end digital, get the scale correct, clean up with Photoshop. Simple. If I had access to B28 plans, I'd do it for nothing.

I've been thinking about this  ----and I think I know how we can do it without S S having to part with his original plans.
If he will co-operate. All he has to do is take the plans, untouched, to his nearest print shop, and have them put in the rollers of the print copying machine, to make same size copies of each sheet. It is essential to ask for them to be printed one click darker than standard to make sure the most faded details are made visible. If he then posted me the copies I could take it from there. I would pay for all the costs involved, up front.
I would still have to re-work the copies to make sure they were suitable for actual building from, and including the building instructions, list of materials, details of the use of epoxy in the build, and other information, including pictures, and tips which only I am familiar with from building B28s Numbers :- 1 & 2. And I would not make any huge profit.

    How about it S S.

Sounds like a good solution for everyone. In this digital age people tend to forget the simple methods. I've made working copies of plans for the boatshop in this manner to save the originals from glue etc...or to draw in alterations and it works great. Paddy could restore faded lines and have a good master to copy for the rest of us.

Using the usual method to copy engineering and architecture drawings, I made two copies of my plan. Even if you have all the careful handling during the construction of the boat, it is inevitable that dirt present on the hands, do not end up on paper; With the quality of copies, in the end you can not tell which is the original

Let me just say right now as a good buddy of seastallion, there is ZERO interest on his side of making any profit. The very idea of "huge profit" from these plans is almost laughable as is the idea that seastallion wants or even needs it.

I do not know the entire motive for keeping the plans with the boat. I do know that the only person trying to profit from a dead guy's work is oldsailor. I also know that when plans are purchased, there is an agreement not to copy or resell or even build more than one boat from a planset. I'm very aware that these plans are in possible danger and if they were mine, I would release them to the world for not even a cent to be made but that is merely my opinion. I, like the rest of you, must honor seastallions wishes.

As for the reworking of the plans if they were to become available. The PDFs are out of whack but from what I have seen(a while ago) they were on the correct sheet sizes scale wise and looked fine to me. We built the Ama and are working off of a copy of the boat plans and everything is legible for us. The plans even include the entire materials list as well so any "updating" to be done is negligible and doable by anyone, ie use epoxy instead of resourcinol etc.

The originals are in tough shape material wise and would need careful patching to survive a scan. Many years ago I worked in a full size copy shop and I am very capable of making perfect, legible full size prints... When I get the go word.

Like I said, there is zero interest in profit so you can hang that theory up and out to dry. I like the few approaches made of the archival type. They are indeed plans that belong to the world but that is just IMO.

Do you use software to correct lens distortion?

Sure. There are so many people want copies I'd be happy to let you photograph them and distribute them as you like. Keep in mind that those plans are for the construction of a single boat but if you are okay breaking the designer's code then feel free. Let me know when you are coming and I can pick you up at IAH.

Who was it who said ---"Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit".

I am not prepared to engage in a "Dung fight" here.
I have better things to do.

    Good bye.

It would seem the designer is past worldly agreements but designs can live on and what better memorial could there be? A blurred scan would be enough for the arm chair plan collectors to peruse but paying a few bucks to someone to make available buildable plans plus the construction notes makes sense for the people that want to make one. When the current plan holder has been offered compensation for his efforts and a experienced volunteer has offered to do the actual work the current impasse looks more like a playground game of keep away. Maybe SS should send Gary what he's smoking.........

Sea Stallion has made a copy of the plans on his time and expense, Old Sailer has a copy but can't or won't do whats required to bring them up to scratch but would rather moan on here till someone does it for him.
I have forwarded the plans on to an industry professional who will restore the plans but unfortunately cant produce the instant gratification <insult directed towards other members removed> want.
I have now also sent a copy to Mr Baigent.
So shut up whinging, get off SS's case he has done he's bit.
Anyone who pm's me for a copy of the plans can forget it as I am not prepared or capable of providing any back up whatsoever.
Anyone who pm's me over this will be blocked.
    Got it !
