    free standing mast

OK Cadmus - Heres the A4 mast. Its Dia200x10mm thick but it can be smaller. It turns out to have a SF=4.4. The deflection is good. By the time we taper it, the 135kg will reduce to under 100kg. It will be a brick **** house (emu proof at least) in our vanacular down here. A single mast will support the entire Rm no worries mateey... I've got some varnishing to do and design a row boat today so have a think. Cheers Peter S

Redid it at Dia200x8 - With a taper would be well below 100kg for mast (but not "post" its a seperate thing) SF=3.6. D/t is 25 so probably won't buckle. Don't have my FEA dongle at home its at the office this weekend so can't run a buckling job, probably a good thing. Better get back to the varnish. Peter

    cadmus da boom hit'um 1ce 2often

    Too cool. This is great.

    THANKS FOR ALL YOUR TIME.

I have to leave for field sampling (measuring insects in polluted rivers) so i will be gone for 3 days. I will be printing these off and reading them in the car.

So you say it is "a brick" but the traditional rigging on this boat is pretty heavy. I will find what it is and report back.

I really appreciate all your time and caring. Thanks.
