Ready to help in Phoenix

Hi all,
I have a long term interest in boatbuilding, but have moved recently and am not quite set up to build right now. Have several wooden boat plans (some I bought, some I created), but have recently been thinking of building an aluminum boat. Point is, I'd really like to assist someone in Phoenix or the surrounding cities with their build, just for the experience and learning involved. I have a good 220 welder, but am terrible at welding. Lots of wood tools and good wood experience. Just want to be involved with a project and am not afraid to get dirty and work hard. Anybody building in Phoenix and could use a hand? You should be able to e-mail me directly from this forum. And, no, I am not interested in working for a someone producing boats commercially for free, or any 'naked' boatbuilding . . .

A rammy boat builder stuck in the desert. That is a bad thing. And we think our boating needs are tough. HA!----Best of luck Steven. Check with the nearest boat marineas. They meet the people from a very wide area.

 

What's a Marina?

What's a marina? Kidding. There really is only one I know of out here, at lake Pleasant. Not a bunch of boatbuilding going on out here . . . guess it's all up to me.

believe it or not... repair in this area is a good market . I am also from Phoenix
and Lake pleasant has been my home waters for 20 years. Although now I am in the Prescott area ( talk about a fish out of water ) Moved back east for awhile (talk about a desert rat out of his elements) moved back.
But to the point., although building boats in this area is not condusive to a good livelyhood ,there are alot of boats here and good need for a good repairman. in all formats . believe me. if you like boating, and want to build just build for yourself or go to work in many of the boat repair shops in the area. Or just start doing it on the side and keep your personal taste in boats to a trailerable size and design .. If you look around you will find what you lookk for . Have fun

 

Water

Lived in az for years and read where az is second only to Florida for boats registerd.Ten man made lakes if i remember right.And more jerks on jet skis and people drinking beer on the water than ull care to experience.Put a few cards out and u might get some work fixing aluminum boats.This winter i want to build an plywood canoe and i think im going to look around for a bored retired carpenter to help me out.I dont have the facility for the wood work,or mabe a woodworking shop,heck i even considered a high school shop class.With my bad woodworking skills u have to be creative.
