mini 6.5 in Baltic sea?

I was thinking along the lines of the Serpentaire 22.

 

Perma stress has not told us why he thinks a Mini...designed for oceanic reaching under autopilot....would be a good choice for the Baltic or anywhere.

 

I do not think it is a good choice (or bad choice, for that matter).
I look after real world info.

 

A series mini will be just as good upwind against coastal brick shaped waves as any other 22 foot boat, and better than most. Ie, not as well as a 25 footer, which again is not as good as a 30'er etc. Hence folk saying have you looked at bigger boats.

Any proto, of any era, has to be backed off much sooner to avoid damage in slamming conditions, not done much in the Baltic, but would pay not to have to cross, eg, the North Sea (again) in one. Think, gets you there, but zero fun.

OTOH, if you get a mini into deep water, it is doable upwind, and better than sex downwind.

If you feel you have to try a mini (go for it), and are stuck in the Baltic/North Sea most of the time, get either a Pogo 1 or an old Coco, to see if you like it. You may find the compromises of the boat worth it, and if not, you won't lose anything on it, both these boats are about as bulletproof as you could wish for. And the best class room in the monohull world.

But, if you just wish practical transportation, short hand ability, and some handicap racing, like has been said already, buy a figaro one, and get out there.
