What do you think about this hydrofoil?

I just want to rectify this thread with some additional information.

The original hydrofoil in question was designed during the 80s and performed well.. by the looks of it.



It seems a bit unstable, especially in pitch.

Looks more like its planing on the rear tip of that front section than hydrofoiling, it also looks unstable in roll, I'd like to see it in rough chop.
Move the "foil" forward to reduce the hulls extreme AOA also will lower the planing speed.

 

I have to agree, it looks awful in water.

 

I see it's using the airfoil just to make sure the bow is pointed up so it would be gliding on that ski just fine. Barely any stable than normal hydrofoil or WIG craft.

 

Exactly. That thing looks more made for space than the water.

 

I think the foil is designed to work at full ventilated mode at high aoa like these proyect on the seventies that use skies on jets to take off and landing. Plus the ground efect .

 

these all are cartoons. not something developed from sound scientific and engineering principles. I have seen the authors of Sci-fic fiction come up with more realistic designs.

I am a little curious how modern lifting foils, ala J foils would work on this. Angled outward instead of inward I think they would provide both lift and roll stability.
