Does anyone have any information about a 1976 53' Gukfstar Mark II Longrange Trawler.
I've looked at one recently and I would like to know more about them. I understand they were built in St. Petersburg Florida and only a handful were built. I would appreciate what ever info anyone might have before I make a decision on purchasing it.

Gulfstars were built on Tyson Ave just off the Gandy on the Tampa side. If you are referring to the Long Range Cruiser (LRC) model there were quite a few built. I not familiar with the various MK models.

There is an owners forum where there are lots of knowledgeable Gulfstar owners.

I've looked over a couple of LRC's and even more of some of the other models, at what they sell for today I think you get good value on the right boat at the right price. Basically a fairly decent production boat.

1976 53' Gulfstar MK II Trawler

    Steve,
    Thanks for your post.
Looking at the list of how many were made of this style and length I see that only 6 were made between 1975 and 1976.
The one I'm interested in is listed for $109,000 but I think that is a high price due to the work involved to fix it up. I wish someone could tell me more about the manufacturer. It seems like Gulfstar is more of a sail boat manufacturer than a motor yacht maker.

Gulfstar made sailboats, motor sailors, trawlers and the LRC which was a trawler with mods. They made a lot of boats over the life of the company and as testament to how they were made there are still plenty of them out there.

I see the stats that show the 53 as only producing 6 boats, but they built several hundred motor vessels of various kinds. I'm suprised that living in the Bay area and being a boater shopping for a 53' boat you are not familiar with Gulfstar.

The Lazarra family that founded Gulfstar now makes megayachts to 105ft on the same street as Gulfstar was in Tampa. Their experience with powerboats is at least adequate.
