Gonzo, you should express yourself more accurately. 're Constantly saying things that are not right and mixing or confusing concepts. That may mislead those who read our comments. Magnetism in itself is not a force. Magnetism is a physical phenomenon that objects exert forces of attraction or repulsion over other materials.
We all make mistakes but your case makes me think laxity

Leo Zauskas, Why so much discussion?. The answer is very simple:

What units measure magnetism?. Perhaps to some of which are used to measure a force?. If so, I'll shut up.

why instead of "fussing and fighting my friends" do not we try to work in the direction to achieve conventionally a common technical and practical definition? many right things have been said, let's try to put together the most significative ones, and something usefull will be done.

The most interesting point is that planing ends up being more subjective than what we expected. There were some comparison to airplanes flying, where it is defined when the wheels leave the ground. However, a stalled falling plane would then be considered flying. Definitions have limits and caveats which makes them arbitrary. I see no problem with that at all. It actually lets us discuss intelligently. Otherwise, we may argue about different things thinking they are the same.

I think what this thread highlights is human nature wanting to have tidy labels and boxes for everything.

Black and white when, in reality, it's a lot of grey...

    Does a bullet fly?

A submarine has dive planes, do they plane?

It all makes me chuckle just a little.

Hi Mark, My grandfather built a Caracat he modified it and fitted 2 hamilton jets strapped to 186 Holden engines I don't remember ever seeing it in the water sadly, but when he passed away we found the original plans I keep meaning to build a model of it after playing on it as a kid it lit my love for jet boats

Bryan Jackson passed away, sad news.
He would be shaking his head at this thread on boats planning capability’s as he told me last time I talked to him that no one listens as I have also shown on this thread with only one response.
Even though Bryan proved his boat planning hull design as you may find some newspaper stories to verify of the long distance sea races he won first place as well as first place first place in fuel economy.
Bryan was a genius all round such as his museum most likely the best in New Zealand.
I do not know why there is not more info on his boat as all can find is his boat pictured below.

The "one response" was from me, I guess. ;) http://www.boatdesign.net/forums/hy...s/definition-planing-45248-33.html#post610996
The picture is not very detailed and leaves a lots to imagination. But I have a lots of imagination, and I see a great potential in that little boat's design.

It would be great if Caracat could post some pics of the plans he has. But if his grandfather was Mr. Bryan Jackson in person, then I will understand if he decided not to show them. :)

    Cheers

    Daiquiri

I did explain how Byran Jacksons boat design works as I did my own design similar.
