What is a significance of a wing thickness

    Yes, I have seen that before, very interesting sail concept. I wonder how they control the shape. Also, it seems a bit thick as well.

    I am actually thinking the shape is pretty good and I have some ideas for the main flap hinge to keep it ok.

    If my plan A or B hinge do not work out, I have considered a "skin" attached to element 1 and free floating over the structure of the main flap. The "skin" would be thin fiberglass for the front 30% and then 1" wide strips with ribs integrated into the inside surface back to the rear hinge. The zone from say 45% chord to say 55% and then after 80% chord would also have 3" wide strip running lengthwise with internal integrated stringers. This would create big open rectangles between the ribs for plastic sheeting instead of fiberglass. The zone from 45% to 55% would rely on flexing of the fiberglass skin to give a smooth transition at the first hinge line. The rear edge would overlap the structural piece at the back of the main flap.

    All of the above sounds great, but my bigger concern right now is getting a good smooth light weight surface that will hold shape for the first 30% of chord. I do not want to resort to a full length mold and I do not want to do a vacuum layup with inner and outer fiberglass over foam core. I have some ideas but I need to do some prototype work in the garage after it warms up some.
