Arabella is a MKIII Hurley Silhouette built in 1970 by Hurley marine Built to Lloyds Standards

The MkV has slightly higher topside increasing the internal headroom

Arabella is currently located in Christchurch Dorset in Southern England and used as a trailer sailor.

The harbour at Christchurch has limited depth and a small tidal range of around 1 meter due to double high tides, restricting the draft of any vessel using it. Mooring fees are 1/4 of the cost of the neighbouring harbour at Poole.

The silhouette gives 24 hour access, I also have a Leisure 23 bilge keeler with a draft of 2 foot 9" which during spring tides can not leave or enter the harbour for about an hour either side of the low tide

Further information on the silhouettes is available at their web site www.soia.org

I was in Duluth last spring and saw one of these beauties on a trailer in front of someone's home. I went back and checked her over, insanely jealous, of course, and thinking of the days when they were popular...built like tanks...days of yore, when sailing had fewer gimmicks and more sailors.

Does anyone know if 'Flinky' got his boat?

Just found this thread ... and yes, looks like a Silhouette MK V!
GET THAT BOAT! -- Not many made and for FREE!
Wish it was on this side of the pond!:D

I tried to send an email directly to 'Flinky' - but that ID has requested no emails ... and only 2 posts -- Does anyone know if he decided to get the boat?

Yes, Mikeywindow ~ I belong to SOIA

I own a 1960s model MKll here on the East Coast (USA) and found the SOIA 'forum' to be a great wealth of information! I hope Flinky was able to get the boat and is now following his dream. Would like to hear from him, or whom ever got the boat ... those MKVs are few and far between. My all wood Silhouette was in worse shape than how the GRP one pictured in Flinky's post appeared.

    So do I Jester

I will be joining other members in Falmouth In May and the Solent in September

I currently have a MKIII Arabella shown on page 2 of this topic - I am looking for a early wood model to restore

I purchased one about 5 years ago - unfortunatly beyond saving
