Double Door

Hi guys,

I'm in the process of building a new 30 m sea going passenger boat. And from my experience building a tug bout, outside access is through 2 type of door, one in the outside is of weathertight type and the inside is of ordinary (wood/aluminum) type. But, from a view example of big yacht i found on the internet, they don't use any weatherthight door at all.

I understand there's a different rules concerning the construction of this two boat type, but i don't know if the rules for outfitting is different. Am I missing something ?

 

Am I missing something ?....yeah, common sence , went out the door years ago...the old type double door was excellent, but not so often seen anymore.

 

Really ? how it's not often seen anymore, it seem's to me all current tugboats use it for the outside access. Is there a replacement for it ? Is it lighter? if isn't, I can't imagine, for example, an elderly opens it..

 

All tugs use watertight doors lower decks, but some use wooden house type doors on upper decks.
Just be sure water can't migrate below.

 

Wow, found out today there is a lightweight aluminum built weathertight door. But it cost thrice as much as the double one. I can see why now
