    The duct will have a bottom and it will behave as a boat. It seems to be a very fast dream boat.

    From the article on page 12:
    ""On testing they found that not only did the new shape"actualy use the bow wave to reduce the wave signature" but that the form also exhibited high speeds, full efficiency, and a comfortable ride.According to M Ship ,the hull is"a nonconventional captured air design that transitions automatically and efficiently through hydrostatic,hydrodynamic,and aerostatic lift modes with increasing speeds. It has demonstrated on several commercial craft the ability to transcend the limitations of conventional hullform categories. The hull geometry and the captured air plenums of the M-hull allow a ship to automatically and naturally seek the most efficient form of lift, depending on speed, payload, and sea condition. The drag curve for these vessels is almost linear, without the typical drag hump, across the entire lift range."
    Three key features characterize the M hullform: a central displacement section, said to have a fine entry with deep bow and "broad, shallow exit with straight buttock lines"; two planing tunnels, one on each side of the central displacement section, to provide hydrodynamic and aerodynamic lift; and rigid skirts on the perimeter of the hull that "recapture the bow wave, which then spirals through the planing tunnels." This recapturing of air and water occurs in air plenums, and the energy is forced aft, under pressure, thru the planing tunnels. The form is patented.""

    I am surprised, because when you look at any ligh plane at take off, what wing surface it need, what foil quality/design and what speed just to get the lift of the plane (less than 2000 lbs for most 4 seaters), with ground effect.

    I am wondering what effect it could have on a 20 000 lbs sport fisherman.

    After looking at the M Ship site I come away that it is a variation of a sea sled at heart. I would love to see it go into waves 2 or 3 times higher than the bow and spaced about 1/2 of the hull lenght. Have a constant 28 degree constant Deep V of the same size running next to it. Who would give a smoother and less bone breaking ride? Which would capsize and self right.

    The boat will ride higher And you may recycle some energy if the engines are exhausted to add to the under hull air cushon.

    Yeah? And who's going to clean the underbody of exaust deposits? I suggest you try that before you decide to pump exaust under the boat.
