Yeah uNbound was a gift from a very dear friend.
I mention this because so often in our society we
are programmed to dwell on the bad. I like to show
the good side of life and the actions of the creatures
    on this world, for instance>>

A bird fell on the ground in front of us. It was pretending to be injured to draw attention away from her young. A act of unconditional love and self sacrifice for her young ones. So beautiful, brought a tear to my eye.

Thanks very much I'll do some measuring up when I get home tonight. Much appreciated
Hope your all having a good day/night

    Corley epoxy coated

Thats great, the number of boats that just go to pieces with neglect in hardstands and on moorings because their owners insist they are still worth money is sickening.

    Hi Dave
Look forward to your visiting us c: thank you!

    grEEtings Corley C: I don't really think unbounds worth a lot of silver to most. But she worth her weight in gold to me c: perspective i believe c;

    Hi cavalier mk2!

I did some research and measurements O.O
Here's some links to AYRS article you refer to.
There's 1 on amazon, but its 100$ and I needs that for me paint
    http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000KEYD86/?tag=jbookstore-20

This club seems to be selling off photo copies, I'm waiting to hear back if I could get a copy c:
Gladly photocopy should I be able to get them for anyone who desires c:
Alternately here's the link to the club.

I measured and the hull seems to vary wider towards the stern. So at the crossbeam (please excuse my lacking in termanonolgy still learning;) Its 1860cm

I'm still unsure what I should tell people the model Hedley I have lol this is fun!

A good friend shared this with me thanks John ( ex Nicol owner :) )
A beautiful piece on Australian ocean race, Brisbane to Gladstone, retracing the years Nicol Hedley put tri's on the map. Such a great read!!

Note>> I haven't finished wandering this thread so if already posted apologies for double posts; and hope its ok to put these links up?

Open invite to anyone be interested in helping out with a idea I'm pondering.

Although there's some reading materiel on the net about Nicol Hedleys
there's not a whole lot. And i haven't found a book at all.
I'm considering the notion that with such a beautiful history and
being the owner of a Nicol Hedley that's circumnavigated, proving sea
worthiness and longevity c; with some pioneer elements with John Murray
the builder of Unbound possibly being the 2nd to circumnavigate on a tri.
I think I would like to pay respect to these legends of the ocean and try to
put this tale together and leave a glowing honouring to these great men!
Being situated close to Hedley's old yard and having a possible leg in the door
in the way of a friend who's good friends with the new owner of Hedley's old
boat yard. I think I may just be able to pull this project off. I would love to take you
all along for a joy full ride too!

I have extensive graphic design skill as well as being a professional photographer
for a time. So I know what I'm doing, kinda ;)

    Idea's I'm having are
    A documentary.
    A a book.

It would be really nice to include lots of history and as many facts as possible on Nicol Hedley and his beautiful trimaran's, so anything you may wish to share would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't contacted Nicol Hedley's family yet. But will soon. I'm not doing this for money but for the love of it and the belief that such a proud history should not be lost.

I'm even considering the notion of retracing John Murray's circumnavigation to make a documentary. Considering probably the wrong word, I mean this is exactly what I would love to do, It could begin with taking Unbound into the Brisbane to Gladstone race, Hopefully we could win some treasure so I don't starve c:

Any thoughts idea's would be much appreciated

I'm thinking you meant 1860 mm....which is about 6' 1" . You must have measured up near the sheer. That makes it a Wanderer according to my notes.

    42' Nicol Tri: Any info

There is a 42 foot Nicol tri for sale in my area that I'm planning on looking at this weekend: link to ad.

Does anyone have any info on this design, it looks different than other Nicol tris I'm seeing online. I spoke with the owner and he said the boat was launched in 1970, cold molded, has a center board slot but no board, interior stripped, but overall solid. Was originally ketch rigged, but now cutter.

Any info on this boat would be great. The price is right, but sometimes even a free boat is too expensive so I'm proceeding with caution.

The first thing I thought was a early Lex Nicol design, Hedley's nephew. An inside picture might help identify it from the construction if it started as one of Hedley's designs. If so it is a extensive modification including the beams, higher float placement or very light weight, different bows as well as stretched length. I'd measure it as well, from the pictures it looked shorter than 42 feet but it is hard to tell. The length could give an idea of what design they started with. It would be a good idea to check the scantlings as well.

If it is 42 feet it probably started as a Cavalier. If 32 feet an Islander comes to mind. It is important to see how the beams are tied into the amas because the intermediate wing beams are not there.

Thanks for the response. I'm pretty sure it is approximately 42' long by 22' wide based on measuring on google earth. What should I look for in the beam to ama attachment? I'll hopefully go look at it this weekend, but I don't have any experience with cold molded tris, so I could use the advise. Thanks.
