    May I disagree?

    Would we agree upon:

"No sane person should be trying to tow during hurricane conditions." IMHO.

    ;)

Does the Coast Guard bill for certain assistance and evacuations?

It was a loss of control. The tugs did the right thing letting it go, it's only metal and not worth risking the crews lives for. Once the tow cable snagged the bottom the tug would have been over in an instant.
I haven't seen a picture or drawing of this thing yet. What do they mean by saucer shaped? Sounds like a crazy idea, but I suppose they have to develop some fancy ideas to cope with the ice

They probably have the same rights to claim salvage as any other assisting vessels. I remember an RNLI crew getting a salvage payment when I was at school. One of the regular crew had been on every call for a few years and for some reason was not there that night, so it was a bit of a hard luck story in the local rag.

Thats basically what happens in Australia, the govt wants funds to respond to an event that effects all consumers.
They simply glue a tax onto a product or service to accrue the funds then once the target is achieved the additional tax is usually lifted.

Do oil drilling platform have anchors ? Or are anchors only handled by service vessels ?

Some semi submersible rigs have anchor systems others use a dynamic propulsion system to hold over the well site.

Once a tax is enacted here it almost never goes away.

Likewise here in Canada --they find otherways to budget the money --(a nice way to say waste it) -- usually making themselves or their rich buddies richer. To continue on topic and not drift into another political never ending debate -- Anchors are often carried aboard and positioned by the supply boats. Even those rigs that carry their own anchors depend on the supply boats to transport the anchors to location. It's an interesting proceedure to watch and quite a feat both here in the north atlantic and in the north sea. Had a Captain friend of mine, Mike Williamson who rotated between both locations doing just that. An amazing man-- picked up a freighter in Australia, sailed her to Nova Scotia on my hand held GPS. In route rescued a storm bound crew wanted by the police in Australia for stealing the very yacht they were sailing on. Locked them in the brig, did a 180 and dropped them off to the waiting police. Then there's African trip and the rescued baby gorilla story ---- Ha Ha save that for another time .
