Cant be the same stuff I use. I used it as acetone to clean my hands once by mistake,----nothing.

Ive had some on my nipples once --that hurt a bit but it was nice as well.

How do they fibre glass broken tortoise shells then?

Note that 1ltr of resin is 1,1kg, so if you are going by weight at 1%, you would need 11ml of catalyst.

The weight and the volumn are so close its not worth getting picky over have use this measure for 35 years and never failed ever ,so the differance of 10mml and 11ml is dependant on how hard you squeeze the bottle at the time . Polyester and vinylester are pretty forgiving !! epoxy on the other hand is not so .
So if you want to do drops of catalst in a bucket its your choice . trying to weigh catayst is almost impossible . in small quantities is rediculous but if its what you want to do im not going to stop you !!:confused::D:p

    Hi tunnels.
I glassed the transom in over the weekend. All went well i also made some bog filler and put that on the bottom of the transom inside and sat the boards into it so there is no gap at the bottom.

I do just have a question.
I am putting a couple of bulkheads in as the tank will also support the floor, with the bulkheads do i have to make them to the hull and glass down or just interlock them on the stringers so about 100mm thick and just glass onto the stringers?

I also need to know if i can use wood sawdust to add to the filler before i put the stringers down and also how thick i need to lay down of bog?

    Cheers

Af the old saw dust trick . Just remember any wood below the chine level will over time get wet and soggy !!! solid or saw dust will eventually break down and rot . so you bog will become completely useless !! your choice !!
Its better to use just the mix i suggested when bedding down and onto . dont forget to cove the corners . the corners is where all the glass stress goes to and a high percentage of stringer failures and breakages happen in the corners . I have suggested you use Double bias as its a much better glass than a woven material . the strand run at a 45/45 angle both was across the corner and have the ability to stretch and bend a mile and never break . where as only 50% of a woven glass goes across the corner and the short strands will fatigue over time .
Good to hear your making progress!! Bulk heads can be screwed to the stringers but after the stringers have been glassed in !
The sequance of events with glassing is important stringers first then bulkheads after . stringers are more important than bulkheads !!!
    Keep at it !!!:D:p

Post pictures so can see where and what you doing !! Thanks

I was thinking with the bulkheads to use get everything setup and aligned and screw the bulkheads to the stringers to keep them all exact square and level and aligned then lift up one side a bit and fill under it, then lower it and do the same for the otther side so its all locked in as a frame. Then remove the bulkheads when the filler has set and temp held in the strigers and then glass the stringer in and put the bulkheads on.

Would i feel if i fill a stringer then glass is with no structure is might go at a angle or uneven?

Would i fill and glass at the same time while wet or fill and place stringers then when its dried glass in the stringers?

cheers again. I feel like im making progress now :) will also stick some photos on soon for u to pick at :) :)

Stringers first then the bulkheads after set in bog cove the corners and glass in place . take the glass round and onto the stringers 80mm or so . the stringers are the most important part !! bulk head take second place . once the floors are in and glassed etc etc its one strong solid part of the boat !! hang the tank off the stringers and make sure there space between the tank and the hull . :p;)

Hiya tunnels, stuee, frosty, and all the rest, just checking in to see if stuee has posted any pics yet, sounds like he's coming along, mine is still on hold right now but itchin' to get back to it, been working on my car last couple of weeks doing the stuff I've been putting off (mostly cosmetic), I just hope the Bird will fit in the garage, 19 footer plus trailer tongue in a standard American 2 car garage, we'll see and if not I have my son's portable (tent) garage
