More power more speed and a clutch that works.

I tried a centrifugal clutch that failed, it beat its self part, sparks and deposits metal in the bilge if gas was present there could have been a fire. Got lucky and only had rust.

If there are any Mokai users here that want the name of the company that sold the failing clutch PM me.

And by the way if anybody wants a centrifugal clutch I have some cheap.

Not really I would not give away the problems that these clutches have, they go to the trash.

I hate to be a naysayer. But, the design limits are more than just speed. They also would design for failure of the material due to fatigue. Increase weight at the same speed, shorten the expected life of the material.

And hope you don't get catastrophic failure. I think that would be more likely in a plane than in a boat.

I posted a list of newer jet kayaks over here: http://www.boatdesign.net/forums/powerboats/mokai-powered-kayak-15832.html

A couple claim over 25 to 30 mph with about 250 lb load (350 with boat).

I like the beefiness to the Mokai. I think they are over-engineered for military apps. But, doubling your impact by increasing speed is something to think about if it wasn't engineered for over-clocking like that.

But, fun in the sun is still fun.

4 years and counting no problems with hull. Have been in the other boats much wetter ride and no leg room, sit on top for fun in the sun not the cold. But the biggest problem was not enough payload.

I can see that as a problem with a lot of the kayaks, jet or not.

I think we should design one .....

Start with honeycomb board about 9# per 4'x8' sheet ....

350 hp V8, or how about we get SERIOUS:

Pratt and Whitney PT6A .... I can design a gear reduction .... bring rpm down to about 120 rpm at the jet ....

Get a jet system for about 800 hp .... use a belly scoop like the old P51 did to keep the cooler cool, and feed the BEAST.

How about 40' of kayak out front .... place the turbine about 10' forward of the transom - gotta put weight forward ... and shaft drive it.

Two small outriggers. 15' out beside the cockpit and engine compartment.

Put the pilot in front of the turbine .....

6" x 9" 'keel' hard chine from the 6" wide at a 45 degree (90 total) until you get about 30 to 36" width, you will be well above waterline. Top like it a traditional kayak. Deck with Australian Lace & Ebony 1"x3"s.

Put in some water tight hatches. With Lexan on top of the hatches for engine components - gotta show off .... Snorkel on the port side and Exhaust on the starboard, like a Mack Truck .... Pretty Chrome.

    Go forward from there.

Not sure if we want wave piercing, or a point more like a traditional kayak.

    And HOLD ON BABY .....

    Only 2 questions now?

    With our with zero zero?

And who do we bring in to design the forward skis, and integral winglets? Gotta bring the front 25' of her off the water. Kinda like the old X-15 .... look.

OK, I upgraded from what was in my head a wee little bit, I was originally designing for a 60 horse turbine outta AZ, BUT, P&W is THE WAY to go ....

    I am serious!

If I do the wings, we are gonna fly!!! That is why I started looking at this forum, I want to build a flying boat .... catamaran style.

Turbine power is the way to go, with constant speed props.

Of, course, 60 hp output would be a little more realistic in most situations.

But, 600? 2,000? The twin otter would have real competition.

But, keeping her on the water (deck), I am thinking the winglets, and pontoons should be combined and kept about one third back from the bow .... Beside the cockpit would make me want to take off ....

THINK ABOUT IT? Alaska needs these. WANTS these.

    :)

    Ketchikan? Sitka? Kodiak?

    Just a short commute now.

Greatest Ice Cream consumption in the world!

Greatest density of Private planes in the world!

    And now?

The largest per capita Jet Kayak use in the world?

Wouldn't it be easier to design a surface effect vehicle then a flying jet powered cat style kayak?

Nothing wrong with a jet cat.

I see plenty up in the Black Sea. Probably pick up one cheap...bit of putty and paint, some rod racks, new bimini ...... fix er up.

thirsty with fuel, so bring your credit card.....

Actually, that is pretty close to what got me thinking about all this in the first place.

Do, you know how it was landed on its last flight?

    Ekranoplan ....

I was understating when I wrote this: "that is pretty close to what got me thinking about all this in the first place" ....

The Caspian Sea Monster got me on this quest .... You posted one of them. That one was crash landed on its last flight. The pilot JERKED up. And she went up and right back down.

Beautiful short on the Ekranoplan KM (Caspian Sea Monster). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V8Nu94khHoo

    ;)

Other Ekranoplans are SMALL .... Like my baby jet kayak would be .... if I DON'T keep the wings small.

two side by side with an Aixro motor and some small wings just might work, air boat for sure.
