    Thanks for that bruceb all valid points noted.
    We have a nice design for a carbon rotating wing section (came from Tom via a colleague) we will probably build in the bigger picture of the development of Test mule Buc.
    This will happen when it goes out of the workshop with the Ezifold folding system on it, in the interim all measurements and mold splash's of the needed hull locations for development will be taken. For now we just need to get it in the water ASAP as a demountable for trailing as Lock intended (so only need jib really as all other sails seem in as new condition) and start gaining Trimaran knowledge with it for future designs.

    What size engine are people running on the Buc 24'.

    I had a 5hp long shaft to start with. It was fine 90% of the time.

    I then upgraded to a 8hp high thrust. Top speed about the same (7 knots) but was much better motoring into high winds or waves

    I will second that. I use a 5 hp long shaft two stroke on a lake- and it is fine most of the time, but at its limits in waves and wind over 20 kts. Weight does matter, my engine is around 55 lbs, and I have tried the boat with it it brought forward- a real difference. I can't lift it off safely, so it stays in place, but it contributes to the Buc's tendency to drags its transom and porpoise in waves. I don't know a solution. B

    Thanks Sam and bruceb was thinking a 6hp 4 stroke for a start but sounds like 8 is the go.

    The Bucc is "Born to Sail" so we only used the motor for manoeuvring in harbour or motoring in dead calm. We used an Evinrude 6hp long shaft, but that was forty years ago. I am sure there are better choices today.

    Thank you for that OS7 alot of good advise to be found collectively.
    As mentioned this is a test mule to hopefully create for us personally first and others later perhaps a really neat little boat that we hope will retain it's original design brief but is enhanced to make some aspects easier (for trailing setting up and to sail perhaps better in some conditions) As all this EZIFOLD prototyping/development/building is 100% self funded we want to tie up as little capital as possible in things like motors and sails appendages design resource etc for now so if a 6 will do what an 8 would have for less money then that is the road taken, hence asking questions of what has worked and what others have done. Again there is no huge day dream of turning this into a mass money making venture we are undertaking it as passion first and something that as explained on the webpage started as a seed from necessity back in 1996 when the kids were very young.
    Appreciate very much what assistance is coming in, we will keep updates coming for those who are interested and we will keep asking advise of those who have experience that can help. OS7 have emailed advised sail loft for pricing and also one Len Surtees advised from Hong Kong Lee Sails, does anyone have experience of their work? Len advised he is very happy with the sails on his Trailer Catamaran.
    Presently half the glass is off the main hull underwater section however we just blew up one of the spare random orbits on topsides so coffee then back to working over head with the grinder in the jig peeling glass off for this sucker. Oh to be sailing in the sun ;-) Thanks again in advance everyone.

    Pic's added of main hull underwater glass section stripped, glass job was interesting at best just hope the floats glassing are as interesting a job as makes for easy stripping ;-)

    Re; stripping off the glass. I've done my fair share of stripping glass over the years and what you've got is not uncommon with polyester and glass. Absolutely no penetration into the wood at all. No wonder plywood went soft.

    Yes I can relate to that on my Piver Nugget in 1964-8.
    Never again polyester/ glass on plywood. Thank God for the development of Epoxy.

    Epoxy glass not poly guys. The ply is solid as day it was built we undertook an invasive survey before purchase, simply the chap who did the glass job didn't prep the job, some was over paint some anti foul, go figure and the strip at bow where he could sand and glass easily not over head was well bonded but typical of amateur. Where it became over head all went out the door he taped it in place and wet through which is not a problem in itself, the gaping white patches on peeled glass/boat cloth is in raw state, no epoxy got through there, the devil is always in the detail. We are happy as it just makes our job so much easier. Again thanks for the input.

    Photo updates added last float being stripped of glass to underwater section after lunch, then onto topsides paint removal, the plywood is in as built condition so we are thinking will just tape the seams again and seal, epoxy coat and antifoul underwater sections and seal/ paint topsides for lightest finish.
    Sam is this what finish you had on GDT or was it glassed to underwater section, it will be in a post am sure but takes forever to back read so apologies for asking if you have already stated on here.

    Would you leave beams as they are, or would you move them a bit forward? (at least forward beam)

    How wide is Buccaneer when on trailer?
