Find the model number then compare with.....

    http://www.marineengine.com/parts/model_guide_post80.html

"Johnson Evinrude model numbers can be found on an I.D. tag on the engine mounting bracket. Some models may also have the model number stamped into a freeze plug in the engine cylinder block. You can also check boat registration or insurance paperwork. "

I never saw racing engines that small and the master cylinder and long slave with handbrake might be clever but its up to the scrutineer as most of these races I went to with the lads were world recognised

anyone that has had anything to with evinrude will tell you that motor is late 80's possibly early 90's. 1967 is to old, i don't think they even had a twin cyl 50 then . does it have a vro decal on the cowling.

Its quite funny but never seen anyone use a Joystick for any of the race boats !! When you stop laughing and sit back in you seat Think about it seriously !! the steering shaft is like a spear pointed straight at the drive just like the cars of yester year were . the joy stick could also have the trim attached to it pull back and you trim up push forward and trim down enough movement could be geared to turn the motor from side to side
i worked all this ages ago using hydralic steering on the motor . '

I worked for a while in tahiti and made high speed 17 foot boats !!,They all had a joy stick steering .
The fishermen were all oung and absolutly crazy .
The boats we made were glass and two full length buoyancy chamber down each side filled with foam and had 4 tote tanks lashed one behind the other down the middle !
In the fore deck was a square padded hole for the driver to stand in and padded all sides . the throttle was on the right side and had a hefty fubber hold down for the throttle lever and a kill switch with stout rope on it that went round the guys waste. They would leave way before dawn with full tanks and head way out beyond the sight of land and Look for the small white birds when they spotted the birds they made straight for them flat out ,
ok 150 hp motors racing props, fuel and one guy two peopel could carry a hull without a motor !!These things flew literally on the ocean rollers they launch off the tops at great speed and hit the back of the next roller at full tit !! they had a long spear with a forked end ,the spears were about 6 to 8 foot long with rope and a flagged float attached to long heavy fishing line . they would chase the fish and really high speeds and spear them then flick off the throttle hold down and go back and get the spear and fish (Mahimahi ). Some times if the sea as a little rough the boats would nose dive straight in the a wave and the motor would drive them straight under the water and the guy would lay back on the deck and the force of the water would wash him out of the hole and kill the motor as he went out at the same time , a minute or so later the boat filled with water would surface and the guy got in and waited a couple of minutes ,reclip the kill switch and hit the starter and 99 times out of 100 it would fire up and he was away agaiin !all these boats had joysticks !!everyone ! the fibreglass boats we were making got shipped complete with everything to some of the outer islands ,always bright had colours for the decks with white hulls . the water was so deep non of the boats big or small had anchors ropes or chain :):D:p:p .

No there is no decal on the cowling!

The only number on the engine is G3659167 and that's on the frost plug on top of the head.

It does seem to have a single dual rectifier which supports a claim that it could be somewhere between 1990 and 2006. It also has what looks like electronic switches on the starboard side, which are not on my other 50 horse. But I'm a novice, what do I know!

a dealer can get a lookup from BRP who have the serial number to model number data from about 1990

a stock sst45 wouldnt do that as they have std porting
a sst60 will almost do 8000 as they have altered porting

Looks to be early-mid 90's or thereabouts. Love the wrong spelling of " EVENRUDE " in the pic of the race motor !

    Hi,
I've got a list of part numbers on the engine, those that I can see. Maybe that will help to determine age and model.

    Power Pack : CD2SL / 585074 9A T-OA
    Siemens Relays (2) : 9902 586224 VF4 15F21 211
    Single Dual Ignition Coil : 583740 24AT - OA
Inline Fuse (Relay) 514491 (2 wires; 1 to loom and 1 to relay holder)
    Spark Plugs : Champion QL16V
    Head Casting : 334280

I don't know if this is much help or not?

The cowling and the aft profile of the midsection are pretty distinctive. Circa 1990, give or take 4-5 years. The design didn't change much during that time. A BRP dealer (Johnson/Evinrude/Seadoo) should be able to look it up more precisely by serial number.
