Last voyage for Costa Concordia cruise ship

This is a few weeks old but details the methods they will use to salvage the ship and move it to a port in Italy to be cut up.

it is sad because of the victims, because of the islands but if the Costa company was using some of the several good fleet monitoring systems as these of www.aislive.org it wouldn't probably happen

 

I don't see how it might have changed the course of the events. Perhaps you are not aware of it, but Costa Cruises was well-aware of the practice of passing close to island shores. It was both to let the passengers see something interesting and to give a nice display and advertisement for the company's cruise ships. Then Schettino jumped into the game and...

Looks like to common sense versus profit case

 

Lawyers as a rule sue all levels of involvement hoping someone has enough assets to prevent them from going bankrupt before the sucking of money occurs. Sadly North American lawywers lead and are training the world in this proceedure. In construction it's typical to sue from the architect to the labourer if assets are found. My liability insurance as a common Joe (licenced) carpenter costs me $700 a year. Years of being self employed has taught me that the worst possible liability to my hard earned profits is personal assets. Contrary to popular belief going "limited" does not protect your assets 100%-- modern trained lawers and accountants on retainer have basically shattered that glass house. My advise to all those involved outside of Carnaval itself is to move and hide the cash if it's not already frozen. "It's a sad sad world Master Jack"

 

RINA surveryor went to prision last year so lets see how the Classification society handles it.
Do they get sued often?
On the other hand ship owning is still the best no rules global business, with the Prestige sinking (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prestige_oil_spill)
in court last year, the only party not to face the music was the ship owner....nice

Nice, spending a winter in the sea, while resting on that slope. Can be fun.

What struck me is the remark "the planning has been adjusted to realistic values". Which indicates to me the planning used to get the contract was not realistic...
