Gel Coat over PPG Shopline Epoxy Primer

Hi everyone. I'm back working on my boat project and may have hosed myself.

I repaired a number of holes in my transom by soaking oak dowel in West Systems epoxy. After that cured I ground down and glasses some fabric in and then used West Systems with some 410 fairing filler to get the contour correct. I then sprayed some PPG Shopline JP371 epoxy primer over it to seal it off.

The reason I sprayed that was on my previous project, I did the same thing and then used conventional poly based fillers to help get the final surface straight. This was per the manufacturers recommendation to put fillers/glazes on top of the epoxy primer. I then finished the project with conventional base coat clear coat automotive pair. This looked and held up great.

For this project I wanted to try gelcoat and given that the fillers were poly based on my previous project and gelcoat is poly based, I thought this would work.

Well, I talked to one gel coat supplier and learned that the gel coat won't adhere to the epoxy primer. Given this, what would you recommend so it matches the gel finish on the rest of the boat? Single stage urethane, give gelcoat a try?

I'm not familiar with the primer you've mentioned but putting Gelcoat over it sounds dodgy, Maybe better to get some 2K car paint matched & blow it in to the perimeter of the transom, polish the transition on the corner & just go & have some fun in the boat. Jeff.
