I just bought a custom sailboat in port Charlotte Florida. It's name is "Kahuna" and I purchased it from the estate of a much older gentleman sailor. It is 32 foot and has a round pod. It also has a winged mast and very sharp hulls ( not like the Iroquois).....I know the gentleman sailed it often in Port Charlotte, Florida. I will send a photo with this request. It is a glass boat with a foam sandwich construction. Thank you

It looks like a Karmin Cobra MK2 designed by Don Karmin. Charles Kanter has had one for years and would be able to tell. He thought 5 had been built and thinks much of the design, very speedy.....

Looks very much like a Comanche - the 32' version of the Iroquois. Except that someone has set about it with a chainsaw!
It looks just like the one that belonged to my father! I know that the hulls were solid polyester CSM laminate though, not foam sandwich.

Can I see some more pics please?

Thinking about it, the Comanche was always a decent boat but a bit narrow. I bet someone has widened it.

    Interesting to see more..........

If you go to the US Coast Guard web site, you'll find a registry where you can enter in the name of the boat and find out details-usually the maker is there.

The keel profile, stem, cabin, stern and foam sandwich are wrong for a Comanche but right for a Karmin Cobra. LOA 32', LWL 31' 6", BOA 16", SA 450 sq ft, designed displacement 6000lbs, 2000lbs payload, 40'mast (stock) and this might help- 12.8:1 hull fineness ratio.

    Karmin Cobra 1978

I believe after seeing the MK2 34' the hull shape looks identical to the cobra. This boat only has about 1 foot next to the small cabin to get to the bow where as the 34 has an additional foot on each side. The hulls are much narrower than the Iroqouis ( as I recall)and are very sharp ( V shaped) at the bottom rather than a rounded hull. It also has an added adjustable wing mast which is 15-18 inches wide. It is titled as a 31 and the doghouse is much shorter than an Iroquois but relatively roomy. The man who owned it has passed and I bought it from the estate. I talked to people who had sailed on her and was told it was quite fast...we shall see as I will sail her from Port Charlotte Fl to Hudson, Fl on Labor day weekend.( 120 miles approx.) I guess she weighs anywhere between 6-8k pounds. Any info you have seen or heard of this boat would be much appreciated, Thank you Mark Holcomb Marked77@aol.com

The information I sent was from Charles Kanter's book "Cruising On More Than One Hull" He used to be based in Florida and would be the man to talk to if you can locate him.

No, not a Comanche. there were 2 boats made with centerboards instead of keels though.

this little exercise did lead me to track down Dad's boat which is still lapping up the sun in the Med and in 'Un-sawed' condition

Though the house has been modified and they originally came with aluminum spars, I believe the boat started life as a "Kaulua 31" built in Michigan by Harstil Industries in the late 70's. I may still have a copy of the original sales brochure stored away; I'll do some looking...
