22 - 24 trimaran

Buccaneer 24

The Buccaneer 24 still looks relatively modern compared to some plywood plans currently being offered. Now I just have to track down a set of plans and start building.

The US and AUS dollars are at par right now.
This means that this last set of B24 plans are still $150.00 in both US and AUS
dollars.
This package contains more that just the plan sheets. Extras are sheets showing the alternative spade rudder, a simple mainsheet/outhaul system which eliminates the need for an expensive mainsheet track, a booklet on the wood/epoxy building method which extends the life of your boat by a factor of five, a booklet showing how a B24 was built in six weeks and sailing in nine, plus backup help and advice from one who has been involved in the building and sailing of no less than six Buccaneers.

Have you still got that last set of plans?

 

Yes I have, but when they are gone there will be no more unless there is a demand for them. This is because it's not worth my while unless I can produce five sets at a time. It's not just the printing of the 7 sheets of the bare plans, but the extras I include and the backup I can provide as I am so familiar with the building and performance of this boat. I was Lock Crowther's friend and business partner for eleven years and was intimately involved in the gestation of this design. It was the most successful of his Tris in the numbers of plans sold and boats actually built. It doesn't deserve to die as it is just as modern looking and performing as any present day 24 ft Trimaran.

Yes it was and we would all like to here Karl's amazing story.

 

I'd rather not hyjack the thread, but my mom and I are working on a Facebook page dedicated to Dad, it should be up before the end of the year.

That being said, my dad's B24 "Twixt" was just more proof of Crowther's design. Yes, the mast in the pic is 38' long.

I notice the jib sheet track was on the roof of the cabin.
I sheeted mine along the cabin walkway just below the window.
That way closed the gap more between the foot of the jib and the deck, allowing a bigger jib with a lower CE.
With that 38 ft mast you must have lighter winds in N. W. Canada than Lake Ontario. Great Stuff.

 

I can't speak for "lighter winds"... My dad just wanted the boat to go faster

 

Sheeting angles

I raced yesterday in a mixed sport boat fleet- I only had one in-experienced crew so I didn't fly a chute, and ended up 4th, but within a boat length of 2 nd and 3rd- a Soveral 33 and Flying Tiger 33. On a 6 mile beat to the finish, I had almost caught them, and held off a new Columbia 32 for the whole beat. 10-15kts, flat water, and I can foot with and/or out point all of them. Pretty good for a 40 year old plywood box I do have tight! sheeting angles and decent but well used sails. I couldn't beat them until I mounted the genoa tracks well inboard- 26" off center line at the back of the cockpit. I have to carry the traveler pretty far up to keep from "choking" the slot. B

 

Sounds good Bruce and pretty typical of the B-- I had back in the day, with stock sails.
