In a good way ?? or p~+=g off kind a way ??

When i was young and just left school i spent 14 years in one job !,10 in one company! , i had enough of working for peanuts so got into boats and glassing !!. For the past 15 years i have been writing my life story and researching my family tree , im at the 1000 pages point with my own story and have a direct line back to 1564 in my family tree with 450 names !, theres recorded family name back to 1217 . Also have a sizable collection of photos of my oldies and my families, families !
So have i had a intersting life in parts ? maybe !! when i reread some of the early parts i wonder who is this person ? was that really me ? if i loose my marble i have asked my eldest daughter to write the last few pages after i hang up my rollers and drop my glass laden shoes in the bin ! .

Come on whacker time to re-surface again !!

Ok so you had time for the wounds to heal and get your thoughts back into building a boat mode again . Did you manage to find a fibreglass place any where, where you can go and work for a while and learn the basics and understand all the whats and wheres and the why's of glassing ??
dont give up your dreams !!
Like i said enthusiasum is the biggest killer of dreams !
When i was young i always wanted to build boats and my work is a part of that dream ,its nighmares at this moment and will pass but i still enjoy all the same !!. :D:p

right been awhile so im back again, with pictures.
its been very disheartening but im really starting to learn all there is to know to stay in this game, (so far)
ye might remember that my flow coat was not curing and never did, so i got onto the suppliers and quezzed them to see if there was a bad batch gone out, but i was the only complaint so it was not the flow coat that was wrong. so i put it down to not mixing to cat properly,
so i ordered another thin of the stuff. the boat was spotless and clean from any dust, mixed up the cat 20% per liter humity was 60% and temp was a constant 20degrees. slapped on the flow coat and guess what it never cured at all any where, i mixed the **** out of it had everthing done as directed by the tin and still no cure. this near killed me.
so i closed the shed door for a week and only went out to it for a fag and cup of coffee and stared once again at the boat looking for it to tell me its problems.
the week passed and i ordered in more flow coat disastisfied that it was to beat me. third time lucky i said. so this time i said right im going to bake the shed in heat.
had the boat cleaned once again pre heated the shed not to 20degrees but 32degrees for an hour the sheds roof could have lifted, mixed up the flow coat this time putting 30% cat for every liter and slapped on the flow coat, this was def make or break. i had finished applying the flow coat at 32degrees and humity was at an all time low of 40%.
went out side for a ten minute break and came back in to check to see how it was curing and to my amazement it was dry to the touch from ten min could not believe it.

any one reading this who is thinking of applying flow coat to a boat i cant stress enough that heat is key, manufacturing guidelines are bull on the tin it says 16% plus for cureing to accur. yea in one euro sized application but over a wide area double the heat.

im happy now its dry and must sand it down to a glass finish.
enough yapping here are some pictures

Which brand and type of coat did you use? I am curious to read their datasheet.

Boat looks great, by the way.

Is it not 2% or 3% catalyst you mix and are you sure your previous coats which didnt cure was flowcoat and not gel coat?

    Welcome back ladd !!

ok so all stops are out and your back in learning mode again .
Careful when writing figures and percentages and degrees of temprature etc . .

To cure flow coats you really should only need 18c , 20c is better 25c should be heaps . and to bake it after a short period of 30c is a place to take care . the flow coat should only need 2.5%of catalyst at the most .

When you get back to gel coating you would get mass amounts of shrinkage and the gel coat lifting off the mould if you use high tempratures so stick to 20c to 25c no higher till the boats finished and you can cure the whole thing for a coupl of hours and it should just drop out of your mould !

So where you at, at this moment in time and whats you forward planing ??? sanding, polishing , waxing and prepairing to make a mold ?? :?:
world wide we have had intermission and every one will be comfy back in there seats for the next exciting episodes sitting waiting in great antisapation , i know i am !!

Just to check - you mean 3% per litre ? You didnt have 1/3 of the pot full of catalyst and the other 2/3rds of gelcoat I am assuming ?

Yes its why i raised the point of taking more care with stating facts and quoating figures etc .
:DThe slip of a tired finger on a key board could change things dramaticly !!:D.

Or maybe 3 ml on a liter, which translates to 0,3%. Lots of people tend to make this mistake every once in a while.
