Yes, I am being very conservative (pessimistic) , without photos to guide me Clayton - it may well be that Par has a better handle on your problem than me.

I have not got a clear picture of what "two 3 inch long cuts in the front of the hull that went all the way thru" means, as I have no picture of the boat - it sounded like you went all the way through the hull to me.

Am I being too melodramatic ?

What I have pictured is a guy with a circular saw, plunged through the sole, or stringer or what ever, just a wee bit too deep and plowed right through the hull. Oops, we've all done it, move on.

The advice given will get you there, which is; grind away the gel coat on the outside of the hull back a few inches, in every direction and hollow the area out a bit. Do the same on the inside, but hollow out the area at least 1/2 way through the thickness of the hull, feathering it out, as you get farther away from the damage. Place a piece of duct tape on the outside of the boat, over the slot, then wet out the inside with resin and apply fabric, until it's thicker then what was there. Remove air bubbles and mash the repair into the hole good, making the fabric have good contact with surrounding areas. When this cures, fill the outside, fair and paint.

The foam is a separate issue and not a difficult problem to solve.

    Sam Sam and PAR,
I appreciate your guys understanding and help to me as I am not an avid boat builder or fixer, I have had boats but I fish out of them, and this is my first "project boat" so to speak. So I appreciate your help as opposed to Rwatson becoming seemingly angered by my ideas and choosing to call me such things as "stupid", rather than giving advice and helping which is what I understand this forum to be about. So again thank you guys very much!!

Clayton, I am very sorry that I offended you, and I apologize for any upset I caused.

My reaction was a result of a couple of instances where really bad construction techniques suggested on the forum could have caused dangerous situation. Maybe in your instance, that doesn't apply - and i was being overcautious.

To back up Rwatson, it's very easy to misinterpret what a person may be trying to convey. My usual course is verbosity, with the hope it'll get figured out, but words can mean different things to different folks, so it's best to just take the content and not the context.

Well I guess it was fortunate I didn't convey in my Island Language :p -- on second thought other than the Australians and New Zealanders, no one would know what the hell I was saying --- "Side by each guys" The last few posts is a prime example of why this forum is so successful and gives me pride to belong to it ---I.E. the resolution of a confusion--- Cheers all Geo.

thanks everyone for your input and help! I love this forum and will find it very useful as I tackle this boat. I hope to have it on the water by Fall but we will see how far I get. I will try and post pics if and when I can.
