i am working on a 33ft v hull donzi i bought built in 1983 the hull is deep V with setback for outboards well i had to redo the setback transom as the one it had was badly designed also i added a anti dive chin to bow and i was thinking of rounding the v hull at stern to give it some lift and speed
i redid the stringer design and i will redo a new deck
i was thinking to power it with triple 300s etec evinrude
any ideas about the hull v modification:D

Triple 300's not fast enough ? Sounds to me that modifying the hull by "rounding the vee" at the stern would be ill-advised ( and I can't quite figure how exactly you intend to execute that) and could see you make the six-o'clock news in Egypt.

I don't think so, you'll be haunted by the ghost of Don Aronow if you do it. :p

Gooday 'wadeed' - What the above 'post' has to do with the original 'subject' is totally beyond me.

Designing - - re-designing - - building vessels - - has nothing to do with a - - 'puffed-out' chest or inflated ego. With either of them - you are in for a grand-failure. Go forward - with great care - - it's a long fall to the bottom, you will find.

You'll need a lot more abilities than you are describing - in your 'posts' so far - - to produce a satisfactory yacht out of the 60'er that you mention above.

Seems to me - you have far to much money & far to little experience &/or abilities - - judging by what you've written - even allowing for the fact - that - english is not your first language.

Please - just to keep 'you' focused instead of wandering all ove the place - let us stay with one (1) subject at a time.

    Your 'youth' & 'enthusiasm' becomes - very apparent - here - - Have you ever ridden-in or ocean-raced - a 'deep-vee' off-shore - 250 hp plus racing machine @ 100 mph plus ??? I do suspect not.

What you might consider - is to refine the - 'deep-vee' - to make it even more efficient - than it was origainally designed to be. What say you ????

When we (8 people - racing 3 'deep-vee' off-shore hulls) were 'refining them - quite a few years ago - we managed to improve the performance & speed & thus safety of the magnificient 'hull-shapes' by minute attention to detail - - especially to the 'strakes'. We were able to improve the speed by 10& to 15% & also increase fuel efficiency by the same amount. Many, many - individual gains in doing all that - as you should be able to understand. Suggest you might care to make youself - much more familiar with the developments that have already been carried out - - rather than trying to - re-invent - a square/flat wheel for an 'F-1'.

I'd suggest you - read - then re-read - all the 'posts' that you've been sent - - then stop - take some great care - - have a person of at least 'some' real & practical experience - give you some advice - pay attention to that advice & proceed with some better knowledge than you are showing at this time.

By all means - 'go-for-it' but at least do your 'extensive' homework - first & not after an expensive 'stuff-up' has been sold by you to some poor unsuspecting customer. That is not a good move - bad carma will wither & dry-up your soul.

Wish you much fortune - you're going to need all the good luck you can get - what with your 'very dangerous attitude'. Ciao, james

as to rounding keel edge while keeping integrity of hull design only at stern i dont think it will damage the boat performance

It will completely change the behavior of the boat. The attitude will be with increased bow down which may probably cause oversteering and maybe broaching.

    PAR Yacht Designer/Builder

A dissertation on the fundamentals of powerboat design isn't best approached in a discussion forum. As to your rounding over the centerline, you could do this, but knowing what it will do, to the other aspects of the design and more importantly balancing and compensating, for the expected behavioral differences, would be key. Not really knowing your skill level, which appears to be that of an interested novice (no offense intended), means a lengthy, drawn out information session, which most of us just don't want to do. For example, what affect will the rounding of this hull have on the Cp? How are you anticipating lift and more importantly, why do you think you need more lift? By rounding her off, depending on radius selected, how will you compensate for the lose of hull volume in the aft sections? Are you attempting to make a weird sort of pad?

Simply put, show us what you know, so we don't have to hand hold you through the basics of yacht design (and so we can move right into the technical aspects of your plans and ideas), as taking a course or studying a few texts, would be a much more efficient method of absorbing fundamentals information. Maybe post some drawings of you plans and ideas in regard to the changes you envision.

How many inches of "rounding" was your aim? If you start with a less well-regarded hull, your chance of successfully improving a castaway goes way up ;) Otherwise the error part of trial and error is going to hurt. Sometime post some photos of what you are doing.

    Milehog Clever Quip

One of the best deck modifications I've ever seen on a Donzi are twins. Redheads, while rare, are especially nice...

Seriously, what do you want accomplish? Comfort, updated looks or best of all, an outlet for your creativity?
