Heat And A/c

Ventilation is very important. At the dock a box fan facing up in a hatch can move a lot of air out. I pull about 5 gallons a day of water with a dehumidifier also. I also have a little fan with a heater from west marine I keep in bathroom, works good for small areas. Surprise to hear about mold in artic, I thought it was a tropical thing.

 

Backing up a bit....wow, $800 a month, that is beyond belief! You can rent a 2400/2800 square foot home in a nice neighborhood for $800 a month!

That's just obsurd!

So, be that as it may, that means I'll be on the hook! I guess in reality there won't be so many zero degree nights as you sail south for the winter, north for the summer, so the AC seems like more of an issue. Last year New Yorkers were cooking.

Is there much difference in strategies for a wood boat? A cabin with about 600 cubic feet....I guess insulation would be key, but most are not insulated at all.

 

On rent - in South Florida $800 barely rents you a room in a bad part of town. A small house is closer to $2400 a month. Expect to pay about $20 a foot in a marina, or $10 in a private home/no liveaboard.

On boat insulation, a lot is also determined by its designed. Wood is a good insulator.

 

I pay $100 per month at Marina Cove in Hampton VA right next to LAFB. This is on the Back River and the Chesapeake Bay bridge is about 12 miles away.
That $100 includes free electric 15 amps only and well water.

I was paying $60 per month at Thomas Marina in Seaford, VA.
I had to haul out in Hampton. Hampton has ZERO boat tax. Nada.
