    49m Schooner

    Peter,

Thank you very much for your very generous compliment, always appreciated.

If I can just reply to your speed/powering question: for a 33m waterline, full displacement hull the best speed you are likely to achieve is about 14 knots. For the schooner hull this is about the limit no matter how much extra power is installed. To get your 24 knots we need to make a radical change to the hull shape, flat sections aft and include a chine. Of course we then lose your classic profile and stern, shame.

If you need a hull for higher speeds, sail or power, drop me a line and I will see what I can do.

    Best Regards,

The J Class Association has had Gerry Dykstra modify the rules to fit the current fleet.......contact them or Dykstra for the current rules.

    http://www.jclassyachts.com/index.html

The rule that stifles growth is that no new hull designs are allowed (into the association), only re-creations (with modifications) of existing pre-war hull lines, of which there are a rather limited number.

Playing cards are a nice nautical idea.

You could also choose boats with a name that match the cards.

For instance ... the yacht ACE

"The original Ace was a San Francisco boat with a fine racing record. Designed by Charles Mower in the mid 1920's, she represented the city very well and it is hoped that her re-birth will generate interest in this class."
