SailDesign: The Mac26 is popular (IMNSHO) becasue it is advertised as being able to do both sailing and powering with equal ease and aplomb.

mackid068: No boat can do that, no matter how they advertise it, as you said.

TheFarSide: No, I said it can do it with compromises. And while the Mac may only be 80-90% as easy to sail as some, and 80-90% as easy to power as some, it CAN "sail and power with equal ease," i.e. its ease of powering equals its ease of sailing.

As I originally restrained myself from posting but now feel compelled to contribute, TFS correctly affirms the possibility of acheiving equal levels of ease and aplomb. His error is overestimating the E&A values by a factor of about three. :)

And I would like to know what makes TFS so sure SailDesign has "little to no knowledge of boat design or physics"?

You guys are a hoot. Speed under power is desirable to many in a sailboat! Discussing cross-over boats intelligently with you would probably be a waste of time because you all make generalized claims with no facts. And I'm willing to bet that as a group, Mac owners spend more time sailing and powering and enjoying their boats while you guys are spending your time bashing Mac owners.

"Both of you criticize boats you have no experience with.'

Never sailed one, but I know my design...

"Both of you seem to believe that if you keep repeating the same statement, it will come true, or at least someone might believe it."

    ????

"Both of you believe that bashing something makes you a "big man" and gives you credibility."

    Oh, har, har har...BS.

"There are some differences. Frank name drops yachts, you name drop youth boats."

At least I know what I'm talking about, sort of....

"You do, but then become an expert in 3 months, or more recently, less than an hour."

Expert, no. But I call them as I see them.

    SailDesign Old Phart! Stay upwind..

    Skippy,
I believe that TFS's only mistake, as it applies to me, is that he forgot to specify who he was replying to (or "to whom he was replying", for the purists). His remarks about not knowing anything about design or physics were plainly aimed at mackid666 and Migholetto. I hope!
