The reference I'm pulling these pics from is: The International Book of Catamarans and Trimarans, 1966. (hardcover)

Compiled and edited by Capt. Ed Cotter, USCG, it includes sections contributed by:

Chris Wilson, Dick Barnes, Jurek Delimata, J. R. Macalpine-Downey, Max Press, Arthur Piver and others.

Another fleet pic of the Cougars out on the Chesapeake..my number 127 in view again.

There are plenty still in australia and new zealand. I've got a set of plans.

There is a glass lively/sparkle 28 on yachhub.com.au at the moment although $35k is probably optimistic.

They were a good boat in their day winning the odd race and cruising extensively.

There was a chamberlain cirrostratus for sale recently. See my crowther refit thread for a link. Don't know if it sold.

    hartly

    Thanks for the Link

I can see the hull looks the same but crikey, certainly changed the top line and an aft cabin.

I would hesitate at the inboard as well as I noticed a huge difference from a 9.9hp outboard to an 8 hpweight difference was 9 kilos

good to now that there others. shame I cant contact any one as Kevin in S/A and myself have been trying to learn to sail them and still dont know if we are getting the best from our boats.

    thanks again

Write to the multihull yacht clubs, particularly in new zealand and queensland australia. I am sure you'll be put onto people who do or have owned them.

I've corresponded with owners over the years as I've often considered building or buying one myself.

Clarkcraft were selling plans for them if you need the reference material. Yes people modify them a lot.

I don't recommend hartley and brooks.

I bought the study plans from them. No materials list and very rude responses when I enquired about the missing sheets. I have read similar accounts from others.

In the 1978 edition of the Route du Rhum Mike Birch on Olympus Photo a Dick Newick designed/Walter Greene constructed 38' racing trimaran pulled out an amazing come from behind victory to overhaul Michel Malinovsky's 70' monohull Kriter V and win the race by 98 seconds. Michel had taken the Northern route across the Atlantic and Mike had taken the Southern route and they converged on the same point after 23 days of sailing.

Mike Birch now over 80 is still out there racing fast multihulls.

Theres a video here of the finish sadly not the one I was looking for but you get the gist it was a fantastic finish

    Murphy IS rubnning this end,

Gooday mate, All's OK for now, We seem to be in a 'HOT-SPOT' lightening strike wise, It's now my 4th new computer since Dec,11 - Very bothersome - very expensive & & now my key-board wants to join 'Murphies team' also, Darn, Last 'lightening-strike' hit the house so hard it burnt some of the roof & melted several heavy duty (35 amp) wires as well as jumped straight through 2 circuit safety breaker\switches - Worst I've ever lived through - 'lived' being the operative word - as it hit only 8' from where I was standing - up to my ankles in water - am very lucky to still be alive,

Keep well everyone - every day is a BIG bonus - for sure - Ciao, james

I know it would be a massive job but ... if the AYRS articles (not just the index) were posted in full ... that too, would be a mine of information for all the crazies. Or does AYRS make a profit selling the odd copy here and there - for such a thing to occur?

I found the guys at AYRS really helpful I contacted them about the 1965 trimarans edition in search of a few pages and they scanned the whole edition into a .pdf for me free of charge. I sent a small donation along to their site in thanks for their efforts.
