I have a couple of sketches that I have drawn of some drift boat hulls and would like to get them converted into CAD files.... How do I do this and what would be the cost??

Could you give details or show a figure with what you mean by "sketch"?. Also need to know what CAD format are you thinking about: dwg, iges, dxf, .... I could help you with pleasure. Depending on workload, we should speak or not its price.

It is literally a hand sketch with no dimensions on it

Could you, please, scan one of the sketches and upload it on this forum? (attach the file to your response)

Oh gosh- its been too long but I have done it.

    Two ways:

Software- The image is digitized by stint of software placing points on the sketch which become objects in CAD.

Manual- the picture is imported and one simply uses it as a layer which is overdrawn by hand in CAD.

I will take a look when I get out to the shop and see if I can remember how I have done it.
If you are sitting at your machine with CAD loaded- try looking at the import menus & you may be able to figure it out.

What are you expecting the CAD file to be:

    - Scan of the hand sketch in a file with a format used by CAD software.

    - 2D drawing based on the sketch with faired/smoothed curves.

    - 2D drawing based on the sketch with faired/smoothed curves with curves reconciled (intersect where they should intersect, etc).

    - Design as 2D drawing based on the sketch from which a boat could be built.

    - Design as 3D math model based on the sketch from which CNC files could be generated for molds, etc.

    - ?????

Was thinking the same, what is it for. Freeship forexample has an extra manual on how to overdraw this from a sideview (and top + front/rear view) into a 3d cad file
When your sketch is drawn in perective fine, gives a good impresion but some dimension are needed going cad
Best to do 3d I belive and have devellopable surfaces, stabilty and speed calcs etcetera at the same time.
Just that or need construction plans? Make a SOR (statement of requirements) even for a drawing
With only a little extra work and some mapping done you can make foto realistic various angle 3d pictures or with a camera placed in the 3d cad scene do a walktrue or flyby animation for presentation purpose, put a soundtrack in, cost be less than you expect. whatever, all depends on what you want.
Can we see the sketch to satify our curiosity?
