Thanks for looking that up for me..

The one I'm looking for is by Bhattacharyya and is called, simply, 'Dynamics of Marine Vehicles.' It was published in 1978 by John Wiley & Sons.

 

Why don't you go up to his office (I think it's on the 6th floor of Nimitz) and volunteer to scan it and PDF it for him, then he can sell it on CD.

 

This seems to be a good question, though it could have been asked with a little more detail. The bibliographic information is (I think this is the right one):

It's out of print, and neither Amazon, nor Alibris, nor Abe have any copies available. Wiley Interscience has no sign of it on their website, including their online books facility.

Rameswar, if you're a student, U.S. copyright law allows (under the ``Fair Use'' doctrine) considerable copying for educational purposes. Copying the entire book might be stretching it a bit, but certainly, copying enough of the book to do your coursework or research should be allowable, if there is no other way to get the material. Practically, of course, no one is going to know or care how much you copy.

Another reply mentioned that the author is at your school, I think? Be aware that some authors get very cranky if they see a samizdat version of their work. Regardless of the legality of copying what you need, don't irritate one of your professors!

To get the original to make the copy, use inter-library loan.

Bhattacharyya is only a cookbook of descriptive ship dymanics at the time (mid '70's) and doesn't cover some of the more "interesting" hull forms (as many over a NSWCCD will tell you). Korvin-Kroukovsky's Theory of Seakeeping is a more useful "historical" text. Modern seakeeping is fairly fragmented along code lines, each code being "tuned" for specific application.
