Well, those persons in the video are either terribly negligent, plain stupid or just don't give a damn about their lives. I just cannot consider them professionals.
I realize that they have payed a heavy price for their conduit, but things like this really make me angry, so I'll say what I think anyways.

"He says that this way (by staying on board) he will have more control over the demolition."
Control over what, once he has pushed that button? Control over the supersonic pressure and heat wave? Control over huge pieces of hot metal thrown all around at high speed? Oh, really?

Looks like every profession has it's Schettino.

I guess simply opening a seacock would have been just too easy...

So are you in Ontario? Parts of Canada are below 49th parallel. Ontario is. Windsor is south of Detroit. :)

Pacific isn't one of the Great Lakes? Oh! Must be a minor body of water then. :)

Salvage is progressing. They just got the 'rock' out. Trucking it through the narrow streets of Giglio was not easy.

Are they bringing the rock to a museum?
Seems easier to put it back where it came from, then at least, mit would be confirmed and charted for the next ship

That is one expensive rock. They are going to cut the rock into a million pieces and sell it for $600 to help pay for the loss of the ship.

Very good :) For our friends who do not follow the goings-on in La La Land,
LACMA stands for the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The 340 ton rock is being moved to become the centerpiece of an outdoor sculpture. More details and commentary can be found in the subthread that starts about 1/4 of the way down this forum page:

This coming Sunday Discovery showcase is showing a documentary about the last voyage and moments of Concordia with never seen video clips of the sinking on DSTV here, titled "Inside Concordia".
    Should be interesting to watch...
